Thomas Robert Stiggants / Kathleen Elizabeth O'Reilly

Am trying to find the above couple on 1901 census (or anywhere?!) to no avail.

In 1891 census Thomas is listed as Thomas K steggant born 1883 ,still living at home in Boarhunt, Hampshire.

Not sure when he married Kathleen, or where (possibly Hampshire, Ireland or Yorkshire) but their children were born in/around Hull, east Yorks. (Violet Maud, Noreen & Thoams Richard).

Any help tracing them much appreciated. Can trace Stiggants family back through Thomas' parents but am stuck with Kathleen's line.

If you go to http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/ you can get his Navy record!  Thomas Robert Stiggants, b. Lymington, Hampshire,     06 February 1883  (costs £3.50).

He's probably away in 1901.  Do you know when the children were born?  (1837online might help you find their births, and also the marriage).

It's one of those 'Murphy's Law' things. On reading this my partneer's just said ' Oh my mum has all his naval records he was in the merchant navy,lived in Bucklers Hard'. But no details of marriage as yet.

My name is Shirley kathleen and I believe my mother was the Violet you mention in your entry Saturday 19th November 05. Kathleen known in the family as Liz or Mamie was married in 1913 and my mother was born in 1914. I believe Thomas and Kathleen were living in Deal in Kent when they first met and may have married there. My mother's sister was called Noreen and her brother Tom, but I know nothing of a Maud. I believe my grandmother originally came from Dublin but have not been able to trace birth record..

As far as I recallThomas and Kathleen moved from Hull to Withernsea when he left the navy to become a coast guard'before purchasing the "Spread Eagle " hotel
where I lived with them from 1935 to 1939. During the war we had little contact and I was summoned to my grandmother's bedside in 1951 to say goodbye. Thomas and kathleen died within two weeks of each other.

I would be delighted to learn of any mmore information you have on previous generations ofThomas and of  Kathleen Elizabeth in particular . And of course I am curious to know of the relationship between our two families.

I have been living in Australia for the last 47 years having migrated here in 1963.

Hi Shirley,

I have a load of info on the Stiggants family and also on the Riley family. Kathleen was born in Deal, as were he parents, grandparents, gt grandparents etc etc....

Thomas & Kathleen did move to Withernsea- where some of the family still live- Their son Thomas married Marjorie -they ran the Spread Eagle for many years- Marjorie (Madge) is still alive and living in Withernsea.

Yes we are still in Barcelona, can't imagine going anywhere else at moment.
Sadly Tommy died in 2001.  After your last message I went 'Stiggants' hunting and have added some more to the tree too- more of your and Tony's cousins - The Johnson family -Noreen married George Johnson.
