Boer War Mention in Despatches
« on: Wednesday 16 November 05 22:43 GMT (UK) »
My grandfather, Percy Johnson's army records state that whilst serving as with the 1st Batt, S Lancs Regt he was mentioned in despatches for gallantry at Spion Kop.  Is there any way I can find out more about this.

I can't find Percy Johnson mentioned in dispatches with the South Lancs but theres a Pte Johnson in Loyal NORTH Lancashires E company! Could that be him?

Annie

Served 1892-1904, then re-enlisted in 1914.  Original army number 3686.  His WW1 Medal card gives the following info with another 3 army numbers:

South Lancashire Regiment 14942 Corporal
Labour Corps 218841 Private
Labour Corps 216811 Private

The mention in despatches was by Redvers Buller.
