Not sure if you are still looking... but this is quite an extensive list....so you may recognize a ship's name here...

There's also the SS Benares which was torpedoed and sunk while carrying approximately 100 children amongst the passengers. .... the BBC Timewatch program will be showing this story soon ... http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/programmes/timewatch/

The children who died as a result of the torpedoing of the "SS City of Benares" on Friday 13th September 1940 were a group being evacuated thanks to The Children's Overseas Reception Board. Thirteen of them survived and six of those spent seven days in a life boat before they were rescued. The Wartime Memories Project would like to hear from anyone who has any connections with the "SS City of Benares"http://tiny.cc/V0QpW

A memorial plaque, in memory of the Sunderland children who lost their lives, was erected in Grindon Hall, Sunderland.  The plaque carried the following wording:

In memory of
The following Wearside children
Who lost their lives in the
City of Benares
Through enemy action
September 1940.

Geoffrey Crawford aged 13
Maureed Dixon aged 10
Derek Leigh aged 10
Peter Short aged 5
Edith Smith aged 13
Irene Smith aged 10
Thomas William Watson aged 9
Ann Jordeson Watson aged 8
Dorothy Wood aged 9.

Grindon Hall has been demolished.  On the 60th anniversary of the tragedy a memorial service was held at Sunderlan Minster and the memorial plaque was re-located to the Volunteer Life Brigade Watch House at Roker, Sunderland.

You can see a photo of the plaque and other information on the website of the North East War Memorials Project at www.newmp.org.uk  In the panel at the left-hand side do a search for 'Roker'   On the page that you are presented with scroll down to the third memorial, Reference No R50.03 and click on it.

The Sunderland Volunteer Life Brigade, who hold the memorial plaque for the children of the city who died in this disaster, are holding a memorial service on Thurs 9 September 2010 11am at All Saints Church Fulwell Road Sunderland. There will also be a display at the Brigades Watch House at Pier View Roker Sunderland from 9-12 Sept.
I have done a lot of research on the Sunderland children but there is one we know little about. Derek Leigh was the son of Ernest and Margaret. He was 11 years old when he died in the disaster.
The book Children of Benares by Ralph Barker is a very good account and lists all the passengers and crew
