Where to start! HELP!!
« on: Monday 14 November 05 13:10 GMT (UK) »
This is my husband's family so am a little bewildered and uncomfortable with the whole thing BUT someone may be able to help.

On looking at the 1901 British Census for George Henry Draper POST I see that he was born in France and that his parents are US Citizens. His parents names were Frederick A and Harriet POST - occupation just says 'Living on own means'. The 1891 cenus says they were from New York.

They were obviously in France between 1875 and 1883 as they have children born there but there is no indication of why they were in France, or where they got married.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME? Any information would be wonderful ... many thanks.

wow!! thank you for that wealth of information - they must have had good money!!! And then my George Henry Draper married into a really rich family too!!! Money does attract money as they say!

You have gottem ne another generation back with Wright Edward and Clementine so thanks you.

Do you know off hand of where to find birth or baptism records? And more importantly, are they relations of yours? Have you any idea how they made their money??

All these questions!!! Sorry.

Thanks once again!

George Henry Draper Post was my great uncle so I'm extremely interested in any authenticated information or pictures you may have. I, too, have a tree of some 200 Posts and they appear to be two main branches: one from Connecticut which has been traced back to England to a Thomas Post (NEHGS) and one from Long Island which goes back to one Richard Post in about 1640. I've not been able to find any reliable information about this line before 1640. The book "The Post Family" published in 1905 by Marie Caroline de Trobriand Post has been largely discredited before then.
I don't know why my branch of the Posts went to Paris in the 1840s or thereabouts but I know they came to England in about 1884 and were Naturalised during the years from 1899 to 1916.
I'd really like to share any authenticated information you may have with any I have that you might find useful. My email address is
