Hi Athlone,

the Annie Rooney i am looking for was born in 1910/1911. On her marriage certificate, dated 13 august 1932 it says that her father,Patrick Rooney, farmer from Ballykinler. Her husband was in the british army at Ballykinler at that time.
I am not sure if she was born in Ballykinler, could have been Killyleagh, but definitely in County Down.

Hi Jil,

You left the Chatterbox before I returned with this information. http://www.ni-libraries.net Since you mentioned both Ballykinlar and Killyleagh you might consider writing to the library at Killyleagh. Ballykinlar is serviced by a mobile unit from Ballynahinch Library. I have posted this on http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,107551.0.html

I spotted the name Kenyon. There was a Miss Brenda Kenyon at Strathearn School when my sister was there in the 1950s. Miss Kenyon, as far as my sister can recall, was a science teacher. One of her pastimes when not teaching was the sport of fencing. I think she was well known in that sport in the north of Ireland. I know it is a long shot but a note to the Northern Ireland Fencing Union might reveal more information about Miss Kenyon. My sister told me it was very hard as a fourteen year old to judge the ages of her teachers. I am guessing Brenda to be about the right age to be a daughter of Annie and Jack. http://www.nifu.co.uk

Claro indeed is in the Harrogate region of North Yorkshire

Best Wishes, Chris

Hello Jil,

I had a conversation with a friend yesterday evening and learnt that the family of Jacob Pyper of Ballykinlar may be related to the Rooney family. My friend has the necessary details and will mention this matter to his father. I hope to have further information for you later in the week.

Best Wishes,

Chris

Hi Belfirle, Athlone, Christopher,

I have received the second marriage certificate concerning Anne/Annie Rooney.
It gives her age as 32 in 1948, but on her first marriage certificate, dated the 13th August 1932, it states her age as, 21. So  she has lied about her age and I'm unsure now of which year she was born. I thought it was 1910/1911.My mother was born in 1933 so Annie Rooney was either 17 or 22/23 when she had her. It does state on both of them that her father was called,Patrick Rooney, a farmer labourer. from Ballykinler, Lower.

gjil,

You have found no siblings for Annie. Do you think she was an only child?
