Hi Celia
Thanks for your replies - it said that I couldn't send personal messages so I couldn't reply that way to your P.M. I will contact Landican as you suggested. I live in Wolverhampton, not on the Wirral, but we come up fairly regularly to visit my father-in-law who lives in Liverpool.

Some of the horizontal stones on the graves were fairly covered by grass so I suppose there might be a chance that there is one and it's covered over. The last known person to be buried in there was in the 1950's and he'd been living with his daughter, so I was hoping that something might have been put up then, at least.

They were 3rd class burials. What do the different classifications mean?
The first person to be buried in the plot had originally been buried by a public burial in section 7C, but was reburied in 8C a month later with a 3rd class burial. Were people from different families buried together in the same grave when it was a Public burial?

Many thanks for your help,
Val

Yes,
I cant remember at this time the different classifications, off hand,  but as well as the four modes there is also private.
Third class is one up from a Public grave i think,I will do a bit investigating for you and get back tomorrow.

Basically it depends what the family could afford at the time of the burial.Public no headstone or curb's up to Private where the grave had both and was on a private plot. The graves tended by the cemetery workers for years to come.who were probably left money in the will for the grave.

Hi Celia
I posted that reply before I'd read the one where you said that you'd found the exact location of the grave - that's very exciting, thank you very much! How did you find out? Can you describe where it is?
How many posts do I need to make?

Hi Celia,

I am trying to find the burial place of a John Curtain Daly who died aged 85 in 1894 at Wallasey. The family were catholics as far as I know.  Good second name that don't you think?  :D

If it is any help, I think the family were very wealthy and at one time owned Marymount which became the convent in Mill lane.  Some members of the family are buried at the back of St Albans church which bothers me a bit because a lot of graves were moved to Landican when they built the school I think?

Any help is appreciated as always.
