Many thanks Celia ! This is all the information I have about her from her sister's obituary. I have no date or source for the newspaper but it would be 1954 I would think. I thought perhaps because it specifically mentioned Margaret it might have been from the area where she lived and most likely Wallasey but as you say there are so many other possibilities. Thanks for looking again. The most likely different spelling is McARA.

JOAN MACARA daughter of Mrs E.I. Macara (only sister of Miss Margaret Macara) Born in Wallasey Cheshire. Graduated in medicine at Liverpool University in 1940.
Joined Royal Army Medical Corps and served three years including a period in India. Married in January 1946 to Rev R. A. Simmons. She met her husband at St John's Church Egremont where he had been a curate some years previously and moved to St Andrew's Watford in November 1946.
She had 2 daughters Margaret and Katherine. She died on 10th October aged 38 years. Her children were Margaret 7 and Katherine 6.

Macara
Its handy to have that bit of extra information, maybe one day between us or anyone else.We will find her,but to be honest I think you might be better looking for any descendent's of her sisters family. We are never going to find her with no info so maybe the living would be easier to trace.I have a few Idias but will keep you posted. If there any good ;D

Hi Celia,

I can't belive this.

My Margaret Macara was born in 1913. During WW2 her mother Edith was a regular correspondent of my grandmother, her sister in law.

At that time this was her address which I have from her address book.

Mrs E MACARA
53 Gorsehill Rd
Wallasey
Cheshire

Now this Margaret Macara from your record was

MACARA, Margaret 53 Gorsehill Road, Wallasey, Merseyside
Lloyds TSB Private Banking Ltd, Kings 28 June 2005 (827)
CH45 9JB. 31 March 2005. Norton Estates OYce, PO Box 4159, 54
Pershore Road South, Kings Norton,
Birmingham B30 3EB. (Lloyds TSB
Bank Plc.)

This surely must be her. I wonder why it mentions Birminham.

What a wonderful find ! Many many thanks,

Anne

We are off on a holiday for ten days on Saturday so I will be off the air till then.

I cant believe it myself ;D I am so chuffed,I  had previously Looked for the death registration, never found it.So I looked again I only found one Margaret death in that year but she wasn't a Macara. In regard to the banking that would be her bank. When people leave wills? they do the rounds of various places(the wills) sent to by the solicitor.I have a very old will,(saved from being destroyed) for someone  in chester  who had money invested everywhere. It has  a stamp from each place he had money.when all is complete it goes back to the solicitor. Have a lovely holiday, i will continue with the Macara research see what else i can dig up ;D

Hello :)
Over the last few years i have taken many photos of the headstones of ancestors, in rake lane for members. One in particular i found overgrown with grass and broken in half. That stone is no longer there, why it was taken away i do not know.It wasn't dangerous, with all the rain we have had in the last 3/4 years, and with the cemetery being on the slope. The water i think drains to the bottom and a lot of headstones are falling in the soggy ground, even the old ones which were buried deep in the ground, and that were standing like soldiers a few yeas ago.Have lost the battle to stay upright.Next spring i intend to take photos of some headstones that are leaning forward.Because when they drop the wont be re-buried unless family are still around to make sure they are.So the headstons will be lost forever.
Its not only the older headstones that are falling the newer ones one are going as well.Because they are not even put into the ground. They are on a slab of concrete resting on the top of the grave :( Rake lane at one time had a huge mountain of broken headstones in the yard inscriptions still to seen they are  not stored there anymore. Now it seems they are dumped as as soon as they fall and break. So my advice to you is if you have relatives or ancestors in that cemetery no matter how young the headstone is.Take or obtain a photo of it.Before it disappears,Or the Vandals destroy it.
Landican has also suffered vandals more and more,as has Flaybrick. So my advice includes those or any other cemetery.
Celia

Hello Celia,
I am new to this bug they call geneology. I have well documented family tree back to 1732 on my side and 1718 on my wife's side (all done by someone else so now it is our turn). Whilst browsing I came across your page and by sheer coincidence, information helping me. In February 05 Someone had sent you an inscription re: Merchant Navy memorials. Landican have been unable to locate the particular grave, as yet, so a visit to Birkenhead library seems on the cards. I am wondering if you keep records of locations? The inscription reads:

MARY REID 3rd. daughter of Capt. Charles Phillips, Aberdeen. Died 31st. March 1909 aged66
ALICK M. RICHIE only son of Capt. James Richie, Glasgow. Died 29th. August 1908 age 42
JAMES RICHIE Father of the above Died at sea 20th. June 1869 aged 33
ANNIE HENDERSON RICHIE Widow of CApt. James Richie and youngest dau. of Capt. Charles Phillips Died 10th.July 1913 aged 68 years

Any information or guidance you can give would be gratefully appreciated,
Yours sincerely,
Mike Dunne (Pensby)

This topic of mine that you are now on,is for burial look ups in Rake Lane which i do. You might be thinking of my other topic, which are Photos of the gravestones of merchant seamen taken by me in Rake Lane, some for various reason with no photo. The merchant seamans inscriptions, are also of my taking and also from Rake lane,so you wont find them in Landican ;) no one sent them to me ;D

I can find you the location of the grave unfortunately at the moment our reference room is closed for redecorating(as i found out today :( ) So if you can visit the library or the archives, they both have the films. In Rake lane burials, not Landican, hope this helps,if you need anymore help drop me a line

Celia   Amended the above was meant to say Birkenhead library and the archives have all burials

Celia,
Many thanks for your speedy reply. When I mentioned Landican I was referring to the records office there. I would be extremely grateful if you could send me details of the location of the aforementioned grave, when you are able, so that I can then photograph it (to send to a relative in Canada).
Just for information the occupant ( ???) of the grave - Mary Reid is my  ???great x3 grandparent, who is in turn the  great grandaughter of Peter Baker (1732 -1796), Shipbuilder, Merchant and Lord mayor of Liverpool. It doesn't half get complicated !!

Many thanks and appreciation,
Mike
