In regard to your Fishwicks they shouldn't be a problem to find,Can you tell me were they C.O.E or Catholic. ??? I walked round  plots 5g & c the other day the plots i thought they were on. Going by the no 5 letter that you had copied. While the sun was out (did you see it ;D) but didnt find them. There are a lot of spaces though so maybe they have fallen.I did get the feeling i was on the wrong place though.I will do i lookup during the week for you and check it out

Hi Celia ,
Thanks for that, I do sometimes wonder if a lot of these old graves ever had headstones or as you say they have fallen over the years. I must admit last time I went to Rake Lane some of the graves were in quite a sorry state :'(. You were lucky finding the sun out on the day you went. It is just a pity I have to wait for hubby to be free to take me up there, once upon a time 1 bus would take me from here all the way up to Mount Road, now with all this progress I would have to catch 2 and have a fair old wait :(. Not good for the old bones as they have been recently ;D.
I don't know if it is of any help but I have a couple of other Fishwicks that I could read the grave numbers of, those are : George Fishwick DOB 1831 DOD 14/3/11 Last address Burnaby Street  Grave no 13g 385 and Hannah Fishwick DOB 1840 DOD 15/5/1906 Last address Back Way Egremont Grave no  ? g170.
It does seem like the grave numbers from the ones I gave you may well be in an older? part of the cemetery some of the oddments I have also say Yellow..... as you know more about the place than most maybe you will have a better idea  as to were they may be. By the way as far as I know they would have all been C.O.E.

Hi Toad
Fink you have your plot and grave numbers mixed up ;D
the gave number is 385 which is on Plot 13G which is a few plots away.see page 2 i think? The number are a handy thing to have.Unfortunately most of the numbers carved in the stones are usually right at the bottom.so are buried in the ground.Depending on who the stonemason was. Some are on the side half way up.I don't know if i have mentioned it before but the reason they are numbered is that they are laid in order. So if you grave is number 385 the next burial stone is 386.If you cant find the stone you want you just look for the nearest number then follow it along.one row from left to right .the next right to left or vice versa you can then calculate where the stone should be. If you still cant find it, and your on the right plot. Either there never was a stone,it got taken away,or fell over and is overgrown with grass.Take a knitting needle with you ;D. Thats how the cemetery workers find graves. Minus the knitting needle ;D
Now your George Fishwick died on the 14/3/11 ???can i take that to be 1911 ;)

Hi Celia,
I had a chance to have a look around the 13G section of Rake Lane today, Eddie was doing a job up that way so we spent a quarter of an hour or so looking for 385 and 170, no sign of the gravestones, just a few patches of grass(see photo)were I think they should have been. Next time I go I may just take that knitting needle ;D. I am beginning to think all my ancestors were so poor they could never afford headstones :'(. Maybe when you get the chance to look up the other Fishwicks you wont find them buried in section 13G ???
It just seems like so many of the graves in Rake Lane are just falling to pieces. I am sure when I used to go there many many years ago with my aunt, the place was not in such a sorry state.
We also took another photo of a grave near the Seaview Road entrance, I noticed it was written in French,it is another one that will dissapear under the grass soon. I thought it was very sad as the first person in it is a little girl born in France who died here when she was only 13 years old.

Hi Toad
Strangely I have never had reason to go on the plots at what i call the bottom end of Rake Lane(seaview Road entrance)Because all the older burials are at the top end 1800's.In fact after three years of roaming the cemetery i still cant  fathom out in what order the burials are  apart from the religion.I have only been to landican a couple of times.I noticed there that the burials  on the plots, seem to be in years.1940/50 and so on.Rake lane seems to be a mish mash of mixed years on some plots.I once mentioned this to a member of the council staff. They thought that rake lane had been badly planned in the beginning.Thats why a plot number is so important to me and i have to look it up given the year of death.Without one its hopless ??? If someone tells me a person died in 1952 but doest have a plot  number.I cant be lazy, and think that will save me a trip to Birkenhead. Most of the 1950/60 are on plot whatever. They arnt, done it a few times and still had to go to B/H ;D As to the state of the cemetery. You might be interested to know i took photo's of the top end a couple of weeks ago.Sent them to a councilor, haven had a reply yet.Must look round the bottom end one fine day.

Found this stone a  few weeks ago solid as a rock and a very pretty cushion.indestructible it belongs to a Greatorex family, burials in the 1800.There is still a Greatorex family  in the area.I wonder if they know its there?
