Death 1910 Abergaveny/ Hodges
« on: Wednesday 09 November 05 06:30 GMT (UK) »
Dear Members,

I am looking to confirm that the death that I have found of Ellen Hodges is my Ellen.

Ellen Hodges
Death
Age 70 yrs
June Qtr
1910
Abergavenny
Herefordshire Monmouth shire

Her husband was Edward and her parents were Thomas and Ann Davies. I am hoping that some one has a fisch that shows some  more information on this death notice.

I want to make sure it is my Ellen before I pay to get a copy sent to me in Australia.

Many thanks  to any one who can help.

Regards

Jean Parker

Hi Jean

Don't think anyone will have more info.  You may already know that Abergavenny registers are split between Torfaen,  Blaenau Gwent & Monmouth districts.  Only the latter has an e-mail address.  Might be worth mailing them with your query.

I have always found the local registrars most helpful.  If they hold the register they will confirm information with you.

If Monmouth does not hold the record you might push your luck and ask if they can check with the other two districts for you :) what have you got to lose ???

Failing that you could write to them all.

Monmouth Registry Office : monro@monmouthshire.gov.uk

Good Luck

Thanks Wendi i will give Monmouthshire my best  :)and see if they can help me.

As I live in Australia I did not know that Abergavenny registers are split.

I just love your "Peeking into the past" photo .

Dear Wendi,

I have just got a reply back from the Monmouth Deputy Superintendent  Registrar ( Patricia  Watkins ) stating:

that she had looked in all directions and could not find my Ellen Hodges. And could I supply her with any more information. i do not have more information than what I gave you or her. But  If I have any more information she would be only to glad to help.

If your offer still stands to maybe give them a ring on my behalf that would be great, if you have changed your mind , then that is ok as well.

Failing all this I will have to order the certificate and see if she is my ellen.

Kind regards

Jean Parker.

Hi Jean,

I talked to Torfaen Registry Office this morning and the death registered in the quarter to June 1910 for Ellen Hodges aged 70 is that of a spinster, so I'm sorry it's not your Ellen, but at least you saved a few quid ;)

Just out of interest she would have definitely been 70 in 1910 would she? - it's just that I noticed another Ellen Hodges registered that year but she was 80 ???

Dear Wendi , and Hazel,

Many thanks for your help with my Ellen Davies.

Hazel, are we ever sure just where our relatives are, I will do some more checking, I assumed that as her husband died in Abergavenny that she would be their as well.

Wendi,

thanks a lot for your help even if it was not my Ellen, you have saved me some money in not ordering in that certificate to find that it was not my Ellen.

Hope Your husband has a lovely 60th birthday, my husband is only 1 year away from his 60th.

I will keep checking into Ellen Davies ( Hodges) maybe I will have to start from the beginning again , some times I find that it helps.

Thanks again for your help.

Kind regards

Jean  ( Australia)
