Australian Electoral Rolls for 1949:

Braby, Ernest 27 King Street, Waverton (no occupation given)
Braby, "Eve", 27 King St, Waverton, home duties

Cannot find her after that. If she died after 1983 will not appear yet on NSW BDM and not on Ryerson index.

Weird breakthrough :o

Her nickname is "Poppy"

The Sydney Morning Herald, Feb 26, 1930:
NEAR AND FAR

Mrs Brundell-Woods entertained at her residence, Quamby, Artarmon, last week, in honour of Miss Poppy Braby, of Wollstonecroft, who will leave for South Africa on March 1. Etc.....

Earlier travels to India in 1924, where she is to be a guest of the Mercantile Bank in Delhi:

There are also other references to Poppy at same Church of England Girls Grammar School and doing theatrical performances:
http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/result?q=POPPY+BRABY&l-title=35

Bizarrely, what led me to this was a death in the online databases at SA Genealogy:

Advertiser (newspaper)   BRABY      Eva (Poppy)   1983

Poppy Braby appears to be buried (from what I can work out) at Stirling General Cemetery in Port Augusta, South Australia, unless there is some other similar such person, but I will try and find out more.

Fascinating, if true. Waverton is adjacent Wollstonecroft and a very affluent area in Sydney's lower North Shore.  Her father was also listed as a merchant.

Thank you to lovely Irene and Margaret  at SA Genealogy for speedy info ;D

In The Advertiser on 22-7-1983 Eva (Poppy) Braby, died 15-7-1983. In cemetery index and burial register she was buried on 25-7-1983 at Stirling General Cemetery.  No Headstone. She was 93 (correct age for b.1890). They will look up the full newspaper article for me/us on Saturday.

My goodness, I am wondering why she ended up in the Mid-North of SA ???

I am really hoping that you are still looking for an Eva  ;D This has been a good way to spend another sweltering day in SA! Forecast  Adelaide 43, Port Augusta 44 :'(

I think if we cannot find a relative for little Eva, we should write a bio and give the photo to SCEGGS Darlinghurst. They would have archives on old scholars.
Will try and find out if we can find anything out in South Africa.

Thanks very much.  Standard Bank of South Africa in Northumberland Avenue sounds right as I have found several references to it.  These give the address as 9 rather than 19 Northumberland Avenue, though.

I will PM you later this morning with the inscription on the photograph.

Have just found Ernest and Minnie (nee Browne), Eva (Poppy) Braby's, parents in an Ancestry tree.  Have emailed the tree owner for more details but he/she has apparently not logged in for over a year.  So, not sure whether the tree owner is actively researching.

Looks as though the tree owner's connection is through the Browne line so not sure whether this will yield any helpful information.

Have seen your related thread on the South African connection at http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=677326.msg5220775#msg5220775.  Thank you.  Have also PM'd you today.

Ernest Braby occupation is given as Importer on Electoral Rolls, with the exception being in 1943 where he is listed as a jeweller. His son Ronald was also a jeweller and did a course in spectacle making (per his war service record).
My g-g grandfather was a jeweller and imported guns ??? Also had a sideline in drapery at one point.
Eva's other brothers also enlisted in WW1: Harold was a farmer.  I think he may have ended up in Griffith in the Riverina area of NSW and Arthur was an (RMO) Resident Medical Officer at Sydney Hospital when he enlisted.  Arthur married in London:

War Service records are available to access at The National Archives of Australia for all three men:

Will PM you :)
