Robinson/Robertson
« on: Tuesday 08 November 05 01:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi,  I am looking for a Sinclair Alexander Robinson that owned a confectioner's store on Capel Street in Dublin, Ireland.  One of his sons was named William Stewart Robinson.  Two children died when they were young and William's brother Sinclair was killed in WW1.  Sinclair Alexander was first married to an Annie Gray and then he later  remarries to a Helen Hammerton.

William Stewart Robinson, son of Sinclair Alexander married Dora Pringle 11 Oct 1933 in Whitley Bay, Northumberland, England.  My understanding is that he was shot at for marrying Dora who was English and left the country for England and never returned.   He never talked about Ireland and no one knows anything.

I think Sinclair Alexander's father was named William as I found an 1850 Dublin Directory with a William Robinson owning a confectionary business on Capel St.  I also found a William Robertson in an earlier directory..I think 1841 living on the same road in the same business.

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks for your time.

Good Morning B1,

I am not quite sure if you need information about Helen Hammerton. The 1850 Dublin Directory mentions a John Taylor Hamerton (solicitor), 4, Eden Quay and Herbert Lodge, Sydney Parade, Merrion.  http://www.loughman.dna.ie/dublin1850/xdubdir35.html#Hamerton

I have seen him in the directory.  I really don't know if he is any relation to Helena or not.  Sinclair's first marriage was to an Annie Gray and then to Helena Bessie Hammerton.

Would any WW1 sites have information as Sinclair's other son was in WW1.  His name was also Sinclair Robinson and d. 21 Aug 1915. He went by "Clare".  Would any Mason groups be able to give information if William and or Sinclair were in the Masons?

Good Morning B1,

I looked at this site http://www.irish-freemasons.org and entered the message below in the guestbook. You might be interested in looking at the site and signing the guestbook.

Regards Christopher

An interesting website. I am a keen amateur genealogist. Occasionally I see queries from people, with an interest similar to my own, who had ancestors in Masonic Lodges in Ireland. It is difficult to find answers to these queries by surfing the net.

Thank for for finding this site.  I don't know if he was one, but I did make an inquiry and I will see what happens.
