TRATHEN (TRATHAM)’s of Phillack

Dear James,

I don’t currently have any information that ties your Margaret Trathen to Edward Stratten and Jane Uren (married in Uny Lelant, Cornwall, England in 1744).
However, there are numerous gaps in this family tree.
I have found the research difficult because of the many recorded variant spellings over time (Stratton, Stratten,Strattan, Straton, Shaton, Strathen, Strathan, Strathon, Trathen, Trathan, …). 

Do know when Margaret was born?

The William Trathen you mention above who was working in an iron foundry in Phillack was married to Ann Thomas.

Dear Jenny,

I checked through my research notes and I believe that William Trathan, age 35, Labourer in Iron Foundry, Phillack, was married to Ann Burt.

William Pennick TRATHEN/Ann BURT, Marriages, Jul-Sep 1842, Redruth, 9, 272

Ann’s siblings- Richard, William, Ellen and Samuel were also living in the same household in 1851.

I can see that, and it does puzzle me. Maybe you can help me out with the 1871 census. Charity Thomas is the mother-in-law and two households (Trathen and Gregory)are linked. From my reading, Charity is Ann's mother. She does have a duaghter Ann exactly the right age. I'll accept Burt if it is correct, but can you help me with Charity's connection there?

Dear Jenny,

I do not have access to the various UK Censuses, so I cannot comment on the information that you have from the 1871 Census.
My research only covers William Pennick Trathan up to 1851, based on the results posted by a previous reader on this subject.

However, I did check Ann Burt’s name on the LTD family history website:

I found one IGI record match that appears to correspond with William Trathan’s wife Ann:

Father: Henry Burt
Mother: Patience

Do you have the 1861 and 1871 Cenus records regarding William Trathan’s related households?

If yes, could you post them on this thread so that I can review the information?

This might help clear up the mystery regarding Charity Thomas.

It seems that Charity is Ann Gregory's mum and that the parents Richard and Ann are away from home in 1871, thats my guess anyway, the Gregorys are a separate household and the "son" is relating to the fact that he is the son of the head of the household (Richard) not that he is son of the previous household 

IGI also has christening of an Ann Thomas 29/09/1816 Phillack, parents Richard and Charity Thomas

Hi Guys,

With reference to Jorose's reply 4 (7 Nov 05) about Elizabeth Mia Strurges Penrose marriage to Richard Tristrail on 23 Nov 1835 I can confirm that the correct spelling should be "Trestrail".
Richard was buried at Phillack 12 July 1864 aged 64 (July - Sept 1864 Redruth 5c 181) whilst Elizabeth M.S. P. was buried at Phillack 1 Sept 1903 aged 93 ( July - Sept 1903 5c 123 or 128).
I can provide census info if required.
