Wade from Cork
« on: Monday 07 November 05 19:30 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for information on my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather George Wade and his wife Mary. He was born approx 1797 in Cork West (not sure what part exactly.  I do know that he was a Head Constable in the Royal Irish Constabulary and retired in 1860.  They had one son that I know of (William Mills Wade born approx 1840) who was also in the RIC but moved to Scotland sometime later.

Any help would be appreciated ::)

Hi Pat

Thanks very much for the info.  George is definitly my man!  I have a reference to him being No 605. I just wish I could find BMD info for him.  In your e-mail you mention that he was a sub-inspector in Kanturk; have you any idea where that is as its certainly new to me.  Also any idea who Lord Riversdale was?

Cheers Fiona

Fiona:

I am glad I was able to help. Well, now at least you know how old he was and it looks like it he had a brother Thomas as well.
Here is some link to a site on Kanturk.

And here is a map.

Lord Riversdale was apparently a large landowner in Rathcormac. This could well be where George was from. http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/hanson/Rathcormac.html

If you can get the film you will be able to learn so much more.

Good luck,

Pat
