Mount family - West Lane, Sittingbourne (1841 Census)
« on: Friday 04 November 05 06:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Hoping some one may be able to look up the 1841 census for me.  I have already located my family within the 1851 and 1861 census, but do not have access to the 1841 census.

Mount family details are -

John Mount head b. Upchurch 1805
Elizabeth Mount wife b. Bobbing 1807
Sarah dau. b. probably Sittingbourne, 1830
Mary dau. b. Sittingbourne, 1836
John son. b. Sittingbourne, 1838
William son b. Sittingbourne 1840

The family resided at West Lane, Sittingbourne for both the 1851 (HO107/162 f.127 pg. 12 sch. 62) and 1861 census (HO107/529 f93 pg.10 sch 60).

Whilst hunting around for the Mount family, if by chance you happen to notice the surname Tumber, which is closely associated with this family, I would be very interested in obtained their details as well.

Thanking you in advance.

Hi Maxine,
Here's John and family in 1841:
ref HO107 475-19 folio 6 page 6: Brickfields, Sittingbourne
John Mount age 40 lb (I think this is short for labourer)
Elizabeth do age 35
Sarah do age 11
Mary do age 5
John do age 3
William do 5 months
all born in county

and living next door
Thomas Tumber age 30 lb
John Fullager age 35 lb
both born in county
(Thomas was the only Tumber I could find in Sittingbourne)

Hope this helps,
xx Carol

Hi Carol,

Many thanks for your prompt reply.

Yes, you have the right family and you certainly have helped me.  Also, thanks for mentioning Thomas Tumber I thought he would be nearby, but not next door again.

thanks again,

Carol

I have a ggggrandfather, Henry Mount, born about 1810 in Upchurch, Kent.

My grandfather was Henry Mount, born about 1885 in Sittingbourne, Kent and came to Australia (Victoria) about 1910.

Cheers

Jim

Hi Jim

Good to hear from you.

This is what I have on my ancestor.

I'm descended from John MOUNT who was baptised in Upchurch KEN on 15 June 1806.  He is the son of Stephen & Sarah (Wells) MOUNT.  John and his wife Elizabeth Moss settled in Sittingbourne KEN.

I have access to a transcription of baptism entries at the Parish Church of Upchurch KEN published by the Kent FHS.

There are further baptisms of John's siblings who were also baptised in the Parish Church of Upchurch from 1798 to 1821.  Whilst a Henry is not listed in the transcription of Upchurch baptisms there is a gap between that of James bp 18 Dec 1808 and Charles bp 1 Aug 1813.  Don't know about the gap but there is a Henry Mount s. of Stephen & Sarah who was baptised in Lower Halstow KEN on 26 May 1810.  A baptism in Lower Halstow does not of its own preclude a birth elsewhere but in the end I don't know whether this is a coincidence or not and I have had no need to follow this line up.

Hope this helps a little.

cheers
Maxine
