LOCKSMITHS
« on: Wednesday 02 November 05 00:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi-----my great x2 and great grandfathers were Locksmiths in the lock-making centre of the world (Willenhall, Staffs) for a century between early 1800s and early 1900s. Willenhall has a Lock Museum which I am pleased to advertise here----it is wonderful. But I am looking for any records of locksmith apprenticeship records, locksmith unions@ records or any oublished works about lockmaking (or its ancillary tradr-----filecutting). TIA.............RON

Staffordshire Record Office probably holds some apprenticeship records, particularly for pauper children who were apprenticed out.  Also the Walsall Local History Centre would probably be the place to ask about the trade:

Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk
