Marriage of Ann Meggison and Thomas Cummings, 1796
« on: Tuesday 01 November 05 02:57 GMT (UK) »
My gggg grandparents were Robert Meggison and Jane Davison, who lived in Hardwick Mill and had their children baptised in Sedgefield.  Robert and Jane are buried at St. Edmund the Bishop in Sedgefield.   I SUSPECT that their daughter Ann married Thomas Cummings in 1796.  Can anyone confirm this?
I know that Ann had a daughter Jane whose husband went to America and died there and Jane was to remarry to a butcher.   Ann died in Hetton in 1843 or 1844 as I have a letter written in Aug 1844 stating that Ann died last Feb.  and was buried in Easington which was 5 miles away from her residence and where Ann had 2 sons buried there.   Would Hetton be 5 miles from Easington?  Is there a way to check if Ann had 2 sons buried in the same graveyard? Is Morpeth 30 miles from Hetton as the letter writer (Ann's brother) lived in Morpeth at the time (in 1844), and he said he was 30 miles from Ann.
Can anyone help me?  I would be so very grateful.

Here is a link to Sedgefield marriages, and there is one of Ann Meggison to Thomas Cumming on 26 June 1796
http://genuki.cs.ncl.ac.uk/Transcriptions/DUR/SED1730.html

There are several other Meggison marriages which might be of interest to you.

There are several Hettons in Durham, but South Hetton is about 4 miles from Easington.
South Hetton is about 30 miles from Morpeth.

Hope this helps

Jennifer

Thanks Jen.  That is so kind of you.  I had found that marriage before but needed to know if this Ann belonged to Robert and Jane.  I had previously also found a marriage between Ann Meggison and George Robson in 1797 in Sedgefield and subsequently found that Ann was the daughter of William and Mary.  Have not been able to prove that this Ann is Robert's daughter. However, the other details all fit.

It's been a while since this post - but I think this link will confirm for you your suspicions and hopes for the link to Robert & Jane Meggison:

You will find here the registered copy of the will of Jane Meggison (d. 1836 Bishop Middleham - buried 1836 Sedgefield)

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-67NW-SFD?mode=g&i=820&wc=SDF2-GP8%3A1310040701%3Fcc%3D2365059&cc=2365059

in it she mentions her daughters Jane Braidley and Ann Cummings; a son Oswald and his wife Mary; and a son George.
