Good Morning and Greetings from New Zealand.

I do hope that I have posted this on the correct forum?

I am searching for a burial record and MI for my great great grandparents Alexander Miller and his wife Margaret Miller.  Both were residents of and died at Uphall.

Margaret Miller died on 8th June 1881 and her husband Alexander Miller died on the 11th July 1901.

Hoping you can assist

Alex, if (as is possible) there is no headstone, you should be able to find out where the grave is by contacting West Lothian Council
http://www.westlothian.gov.uk/law-licensing/640/648/CemeteryandBurialgrounds

Everyone else, in the interests of avoiding duplication of efforts see

Alex G already has the relevant death certificates and census records.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

I  have the CDs produced by West Lothian Family History Society of the interment registers held by the cemeteries office. I can find no trace of Margaret's burial as the registers of Uphall only start at its opening in 1893. She was possibly buried in St Nicholas Churchyard. Alexander was buried in common ground in Uphall Cemetery in Section B, lair 74, his address is given as "mortuary". As Forfarian has suggested I would contact the cemeteries office to find where this grave is.

Eric

Thank you.  I shall follow this up with an inquiry to the Cemeteries Office.  Once I can establish the location of the grave or graves I might be able to arrange some photographs?

Cheers

From website and PDF of MI's no record of Margaret Miller in St Nicholas Churchyard.

With regard Alexander Miller it will take a while to hear back from Cemeteries Office due to volume of inquiries

Cheers

Hello Jean,
If you are still doing lookups for MIs in West Lothian, I would appreciate it very much if you would look for Adam Currie who was born in 1838 in Sorn Ayrshire but moved to Torphichen and died there on Low Road in 1902. His wife was Janet Andrew but I don't yet have her DOD. Another Currie - Janet Hamilton Andrew Currie was born in 1894 in Torphichen and died there in 1979. She was married to a William Kerr, who died there in 1958. Other children of Adam and Janet Currie also moved to Torphichen: Robert born 1867 who married a Catherine Gray from Balckburn West Lothian, Adam born 1869, Margaret Wilson Currie born 1873 William born 1874, James born 1879 and Andrew Hamilton Currie born 1881. James was the witness for his father Adam's death in 1902.
Thank you for reading this long list of names. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards, Nan

Jane, Nan's post prompts me to ask whether you have access to the published booklets that include only stones with at least one pre-1855 inscription, or to a complete listing of all stones in West Lothian, right up to date?

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
