Hi Janet,

My apologies for not replying sooner.

Many thanks for your response and information - it's appreciated!  Where did you find the information?  The 22 yr old John Hatton looks a possibility.

Regards,

Christine

Hi Christine

Not sure if Janet uses the same site, but there are 3 John Hattons on unassisted migrants
HATTON JOHN 18 SEP 1852 TIPPOO SAIB B 009 001
HATTON JOHN 34 SEP 1852 STATESMAN B 008 002
HATTON JOHN 18 OCT 1857 ALBION B 133 003

and 2 on assisted
HATTON JOHN 50 APR 1858 EMPRESS EUGENIE 13 166
HATTON JOHN 22 JAN 1857 BALNAGUITH 12 254

and probably a number of "Mr" Hattons as well. It is the best online index for oz shipping that seems to be available

Hi Christine & Trish  :D

I found the info on John Hatton in index books at the LDS centre where I work as a volunteer, but I intend to make a note of the sites mentioned by Trish.

If you read this Trish where abouts are you? I live in Redcliffe just north of Brisbane!

Another site worth looking at is www.freesurnamesearch.com which has heaps of links for research covering a variety of countries.

Cheers
Janet  ;)

Many thanks for your reply and information, Trish.  John Hatton was said to be about 18 when he arrived in Australia, so, it does look promising!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hi Christine

If you can find someone with access to the Vic archives to check the fiche, details are often given as to where the immigrant came from. This site, quoted on rootschat some time ago may be useful
http://www.raogk.org/australia.htm to find such a person.

HAPPY NEW YEAR   ;D   ;D   ;D   ;D
