John McJannett/McJennett
« on: Friday 28 October 05 09:16 BST (UK) »
I am having trouble locating where John mcJannett was born. He married Mary Huthins 1801 Narborough Leicstershire. Unfortunately there seem to be many variations on his name such as McJennett when he married, Mack Jannett when his son was baptised. Any suggestions ???

Hi

I am also interested in finding out more about John McJannett; I believe him to be a relative of my ancestor Thomas McJannett who married Jane Botterill in Narborough in 1826.  I have so far been unable to trace either Thomas or John's baptisms.

It states on the 1851 Census (He lived in Battersea with wife Mary) that John McJannett was born in Wanstead, Essex in abt 1782.    I have not been able to check Wanstead baptisms as yet.

Thomas McJannett was in the army from abt 1805 to 1816, he was discharged to Pension in 1816 after being injured at the Battle of Waterloo.  These papers state that he was born in Clapham, as do the 1851 and 1861 Censuses of Narborough (He died in 1862)

I get the impression that the McJannett's could well have been non-conformists, so could be more difficult to trace.

Wish you luck in your search

Rachel,
Thank you for your message. I have had trouble with the name McJannett as it seems to keep changing. John McJannett is my gt gt gt grandfather. Do you think that he and Thomas were perhaps brothers? If you manage to find anything out about parents could you please let me know. Have you looked on the IGI?
Regards
Karen Bida :) :)

Will certainly let you know if I find out anything.  Unfortunately, the IGI does not have the baptisms of either John or Thomas.  Wanstead and Clapham do not seem to be on the IGI as far as I can see.

It does, however, list the baptisms of John and Mary's children, and Thomas and Jane's, and the two marriages.  Do you know who the witnesses were to the marriage of John and Mary or Thomas and Jane?

There are a lot of variations on the spelling of the surname for John and Mary's children as follows:-

Jennet
Tennett
Jannett
Mackqennet?!! ;D

As you say, loads of different surnames!

Thomas and Jane's children are easier to trace as all seem to be put on under the name Jannett!

Hi

Sorry about my previous posting, pressed wrong key :o

Am thinking actually that it might be better to send you the information as a GEDCOM File.

Would that be alright with you?

Hi Rachel
As you know John McJannet married Mary Hutchins 10/11/1801 in Narborough Leicestershire. The children that i have found are Elizabeth McJannett 08/08/1820 and James Hutchins mcJannett 22/2/1823. Have not found a marriage for Elizabeth but believe she ended up in service in Chelsea. James married Caroline Denby 16/04/1844 in Surrey. They had  the following children;-James H c1846
Caroline c1850
Martha c1854
Mary A c1860
Robert W c1851
Walter c1863
Violet c1866
Ellen c1865
Alice c1869
They were born in various places such as Clapham, Brixton, Kingston all in Surrey.
Alice married James Garner Wright 02/12/1889. They had as far as I know 3 children the first died at 3mths the second died aged 17 the third was my grandfather born 21/04/1912.
If you would like any further info please do not hesitate to ask
Karen :) :)
