Ashton Family Dalston
« on: Thursday 27 October 05 13:22 BST (UK) »
My G4grandfather William Ashton [living Janet Street, Preston 1851] gives his place of birth 1807/8 as Dalston, Cumberland.  He was an engineer, probably working in cotton mills, so was likely living in Buckhowbank area.  Could anyone tell me if there were any Ashtons - probably in their 70s-80s living in the area at time of 1841-51 census?
I know its a long shot but can turn nothing up on present 51 UK census.
Janet
PS:  Common first names in the rest of the family...William, John, Robert, Lucy, Martha

Hi Janet,
Had a look on the 1841 for Dalston but I can't find any Ashtons at all :'(
but there are some places that are totally unreadable.

Many thanks Ange.
Its more than probable that Williams parents were dead by then and if he was an only child the connection with Dalston would have ended.
