Finding the right marriage certificate

Hello!

I have a couple of questions

I was wondering first of all how some people on this site have found their family crest.  I've seen some online for my family, but I"m never sure if they're real or just sort of made up to sell b/c they usually are found with all kinds of offers to buy copies of them online.  

Also, I've managed to trace parts of my family back to the 1700s and I was wondering how you determine if you have the right marriage certificate.  I have a lot of relatives in the county of Leicestershire during the 1700's and there are a lot of people by the same names.  So for example, if I was looking for Andrew Tealby's marriage certificate, but there are two around the same time in the same area of the county, how would I know which one is the real one if he married outside of his birth county and there are no parents' names on them.  So far just done it online for them and haven't seen the actual film record yet.  Will that have the parents names on it ?

Hi Kathy. With regards to the family crests....take a look in your profile. Within you will find a drop down list of crests for surnames. Remember they are not necessarily YOUR family crest as your family would have to have been of a particular status, The crest here are just a bit of fun

Sorry I have only just realised that the secod part of your posting is unanswered.  So here goes:

Information on a Marriage Certificate is:
Number of Certificate
Date Married
Names & Surnames of each party
Ages
Condition (e.g. Bachelor or Spinster)
Rank or Orofession
Residence at time of Marriage
Both Father names & Surnames
Rank or Profession of both Father
Place of Marriage, by whom performed, whether after banns, licence or certificate
Signatures of parties who were married
Signatures of witnesses

However,  prior to 1837 you will not find any certificates as civil registration started in 1837.  Before that you will only find copies of parish records or banns. Details then were date and place of marriage,  bride and groom's name,  condition at time of marriage (spinster etc.),  name of witnesses and curate.  You should also be able to tell if they were resident i the parish at the time.

A good lead as to whether it is your record is the witnesses names,  they will often be members of the family,  possibly siblings.

If you are interested in a crest or coat of arms - I have several books that list arms etc associated with a particular surname.

Just give me the surname and the location of yourearliest reference to that name

Will then have a look for you - no charges, no ripp offs

i was wondering if u could tell me the BYRD coat of arms

the earliest date i have of them is 1835 and thats a date of birth it probably would be earlier than that  in staffordshire

im very interesting in my BYRD family as i have so much info on them

According to my 'Oracle' in this case "A Dictionary of English Surnames" by P H Reaney & R M Wilson

Bird, Birds, Byrd, Byrde is Old English, a nickname 'bridd or 'bird'
Sometimes, no doubt, metonymic for birdclever, or Bird Catcher.
It goes back to 1193 - William Brid

As far as crests go:
Byrde in Kent, Byrde in Lincs, and
Byrde generally - On a Dolphin, embowed, ppr, an eagle, wings addorsed, or
