The Group 9 participant did indeed get upgraded to the Big Y DNA test and he is a Big Y DNA match to Group 9.

Here is the latest Big Y participants family tree.

Descendants of Samuel Lock

1     Samuel Lock      b: Abt. 1822 in Barnstaple, Devon, England
..      +Elizabeth Burdguss      b: Abt. 1823 in Chittlehampton, Devon, England
2     John Lock      b: Abt. 1852 in Barnstaple, Devon England
2     Amelia Lock      b: Abt. 1854 in Pilton, Devon, England
2     Samuel Jr. Lock      b: Abt. 1857 in Pilton, Devon, England
...      +Elizabeth Harriet Lockyer      b: Abt. 1858 in Cogges, Oxfordshire, England
.   3     Elizabeth Lock      b: 1881

.   3     Ernest Lock      b: Abt. 1889 in Plaistow, West Ham, Essex, England
.....      +Ivy Evelyn Grace Finn
...   4     Norman Bertram Peter Lock      b: July 1917 in Bournemouth, England
...   4     Eric John Lock      b: 1919 in Bournemouth, England
.   3     Bertie Lock      b: Abt. 1895 in Plaistow, West Ham, Essex, England
.   3     Mable Lock      b: Abt. 1899 in Plaistow, West Ham, Essex, England
2     William Lock      b: Abt. 1860 in Pilton, Devon, England

If your Lock / Locke tree traces back to Devonshire, England 1600's - 1700's era, you might consider joining the Group 9 participants in being Big Y DNA tested. This is getting pretty exciting, the Locke DNA project now has multiple Lock / Locke branches who's family trees are not fully connected just yet, but with each Big Y test being completed, proving to be a genetic match, it is just a matter of time before the common male ancestor(s) are identified.

As far as genetic matches goes, it does not get any better of a genetic match then a Big Y 700 match. Anyone who wants to see the other part of this Lock tree, can do a search on William Buckingham Lock and find his family tree online. William Buckingham Lock's tree is related to the latest Big Y participants family tree that I just shared in this post.

August 2024 was an exceptionally good month for the Locke DNA project thanks to some very generous donors, the project was able to upgrade 5 Y DNA participants to the Big Y DNA test.

Of those being upgraded to the Big Y test:
Family Group 2 a direct descendant of Richard Lock & Mary of Frederick County, Virginia Colony mid 1700's era. This will be the second Group 2 participant being upgraded to the Big Y.
Group 2 is also Y DNA proven to be related to Matthew Lock & Rememberance Boswell of England.

Family Group 5, a direct descendant of Thomas Locke & Susannah Henry of Botetourt County, Virginia Colony late 1700's era, Thomas was reportedly born in England.

Group 10, three direct male descendants of Col. Francis Locke of  Rowan County, North Carolina Colony are being upgraded to the Big Y, this lineage has direct ties to Devon, England.
This will give Group 10 a total of 6 Big Y participants tested, 5 in the USA, 1 in England.

Family Group 19, a direct descendant of Harvey Locke b. 1823 Greene County, Pennsylvania USA

Multiple Lock / Locke men in the Locke DNA project have agreed to allowing the project pay to get them upgraded to the Big Y DNA test for free.

One of those on the waiting list for a free Big Y upgrade is from Family Group 15, a direct descendant of James Locke b. 1764 of Dundas County Ontario, Canada.

The Locke DNA project has moved its goal to getting as many men in the project upgraded to the Big Y test, the most expensive and comprehensive Y DNA & SNP ( Y Haplogroup ) test available on the market.

Once the project has all those existing project participants willing to be upgraded to the Big Y upgraded, we will be moving to the next phase, which is to start offering Lock / Locke men of Canada, Australia, UK and elsewhere a free Big Y DNA test.

Being able to offer free Big Y upgrades for existing project participants and free Big Y tests to potential new participants, totally relies on donations being made to the project, to be able to pay for those free upgrades and free tests in the near future.

If you are a Lock / Locke man outside the USA and you are interested in being Y DNA or Big Y DNA tested, please visit the Locke DNA project online and send Donald Locke or George Locke and email them and let them know you are interested in being placed on the waiting list.
The Locke DNA project which includes the Lock spelling, is a global project, not a USA project contrary to popular belief.

The whole purpose of the Y DNA and Big Y DNA test, is to use the male Y chromosome to prove kinship beyond any shadow of a doubt. Ever wonder if that other Lock / Locke family residing in the same region as yourself is related to you? This is where the Y DNA and Big Y DNA test can play a huge roll in our genealogical research, by proving to yourself who you are related to, and or proving who you are not related to.

Every Y DNA match found to a Lock / Locke man anywhere in the world, is a genetic clue for your genealogical family tree research to follow in the paper records research.

Your Lock / Locke family tree maybe just a branch of a much larger Lock / Locke family tree that you never knew existed because the paper records did not mention other kinship's for you to be able to follow those other kinship's in the genealogical records.
The male Y chromosome never forgets kinship!

Locke family Group 2 in the Locke DNA project, the descendants of Richard Lock ( who is of British Romani ancestry ) & Mary of Colonial Virginia, has had a second participant upgraded to the Big Y 700 test.

Thanks to this upgrade to the Big Y, Group 2 has been moved to Y Haplogroup H-BY78231.
Both Group 2 Big Y participants are now at their final Terminal SNP ( Y Haplogroup ).

Locke Group 10 in the Locke DNA project, the descendants of John Locke b. about 1700 in London,
d. 1743 in Colonial Pennsylvania. Theirs is a very interesting case in the fact that their SNP "Y Haplogroup" has mutated at least 3 times since the birth of the Parent SNP.

Their Parent SNP is Y Haplogroup I-BY176406, in which one British Locke participant has tested positive for I-BY176406. The Colonial American Locke descendants have been placed in three SNP's downstream of I-BY176406, they are as follows Y Haplogroup I-BY177351,  I-BY176663 and I-FTG35740.

In laymans terms, this means through out their paternal family history, their Y Haplogroup ( SNP ) has mutated 3 times, it is still the same paternal Lock / Locke family tree, but now this lineage has clear proof their Y Haplogroup ( SNP ) has mutated over the generations.

Lock / Locke men of the UK are encouraged to consider joining the Locke DNA project.
The genealogical paper records alone, does not always tell you everything you need to know in regards as to who is related, and who is not related to you. Your Lock / Locke paternal lineage, maybe just a branch of a much larger Lock / Locke family tree that the paper records never mentioned.
