anyone know what type of training took place in Beddgelert, Wales please?

just as the subject says really, My Grandfather did some of his training in Beddgelert (so he said) and we were curious what.

According to his war records he did no training of any sort at all during the entire war! so his record is of very little help.

Thanks

That's in Snowdonia.

Perhaps similar terrain to Norway.

There may have been a Territorial Army Training Camp there.

There is still a camp at Capel Curig today.   Have a look at a map and see how close together they are.

He was TA in 1939 so a TA training camp could make sense although why he would have been in lodgings I am not sure. Perhaps the stories ended up being confused and he didn't stay in the B&B until later when he was on leave?

I assume he did mountain climbing training to some degree because he was apparently a good climber.

yes similar terrain to Norway so would make sense. of course finding any evidence he actually WENT to Norway will be harder.

thank you

Good evening,

Most TA camps had a small permanent staff cadre for security purposes. So that could be the reason for his lodgings.

I hadn't thought of that. yes could explain it, they must have had local people who offered/were made to offer board and lodgings to some staff I suppose and perhaps she was one of them.
