Thanks for the reply. Spot on with the birth cert, that's her alright. I'd been looking for 1880 or 81 as a birth date as she'd been 10 in the census of 1891.
On hugh's wedding cert, there's no occupation listed for Duncan, Hughina's address of Doundaff is listed on Hugh, my grandfathers birth cert of 1899.
Have found the 1901 census, interesting that the mother does not live there. I remember hearing that she gave him up as he was born out of wedlock, something he was always ashamed of.
Many thanks

Hi,
I'm researching my fathers side of the family and have can find little trace of his grandfather, Duncan Findlay. Duncan was the father of Hugh McDonald (my grandfather) born (illegitimatley) 12th Nov 1899 in the parish of Cawdor to Hughina McDonald, who would have been about 19 at the time.(Can't find her birth cert. but the census of 1881 and 1891 list her as having been born in parish of Daviot.
The first record I can find of Duncan is my grandparents wedding certificate, on the 2nd December 1927 in Rothes. He is listed as deceased, but I cannot find any other info, birth, death or census records.
Hughina was listed as a domestic servant domiciled at the farm of Doundaff in the Parish of Edinkillie at the time.

Realise these parishes are in Moray, but the family have strong links to Invernesshire, I have posted same message in Moray section.

It's amazing what turns up on the web when you start looking!
I was also looking for details of my grandfather, Hunter, I'm Jean's son, Calum, so you must either be Gordon, Graham, Morag or Shona?
I've managed to get some info from Scotlands people web site so far, after a bit of digging an was surprised with what I found. I didn't know the Mackenzie's came up from Lanark, I always thought they were from Dingwall area.

Here's the info I have so far

Moses Mann Hunter McKenzie(surname as spelt on the birth cert.) Born 24th Jan 1907 Newmains
Father-Alexander McKenzie, a baker, (born Ellon-1870-1872ish need more info...)
Mother-Margaret Mary Hunter (born 13th July 1876 Muirhouses Newmains)
They were married on 28th June 1900 in Cambusnethan.

Alexanders parents were Gregor (or Grigor) McKenzie, a crofter, and I think Annie Taylor??? need more info.
Margaret's parents were Moses Hunter, an iron moulder) and Margaret Fleming
They were married 1st September 1865 in Bothwell.

Moses' parent were David Hunter, an engine fitter, and Isabella Mann, more info needed.

Margaret Flemings parents were Alexander Fleming and Isabella Nisbett, more info needed.

So far have not done a great deal of research into Grannie yet, working on it though.

I'd be grateful if you have any more family details to pass on,

Regards,

Calum (MacDonald)
