Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Re: Gloucester Gaol Look up request please

Claire and Victor,
Thank you both so much for your quick response.  Wow.  I'm amazed to hear anything, let alone so fast.  And of course wish I could know more of what happened and why.  If this is my Louisa, and the dates and places say it has to be, she would have been pregnant with her daughter while serving her sentence.  Totally amazing.

Victor, I look forward to seeing what the register has to say.

Again, thank you both so much.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Gloucester Gaol Look up request please

I came across an interesting tidbit of information on an ancestor and was wondering if there is a way to get more information?  It seems that on March 28, 1838 Louisa Billett was in Gloucester Gaol.  I have no further information except for the notation of register 5/5.
Would you know how I could find this information?  Is it online?  I am living in the U.S. so travel to Gloucester RO is in the distant future.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

That information looks fantastic.  I'm looking through IGI now, thanks to your lead.

In 1861 census (I think it was) Matthew was working as a miller and living near his brother (Sam?) who had employed several of his children as servants and laborers.  It looks like Sam was the one who inherited/married into/bought a large farm in the area.

In fact Matthew is my 3gg-grandfather.  The names Thomas, Henry, and Sam re-occur regularly in the family.

Yes, please send any info you find.  It is a great starting point.

Thanks,
Barb

Thank you Deb,

I have a feeling that I'm really really close.  Apparently, from the map George Nympton is close to King and even Queen Nympton.  This may be him.

I've just started the search in UK and Devon has, to my American ears, some confusing town names.  :)  This from a woman who lives on DAHL st (heavily settled by Swedes) off the Conawango Creek near Onondaga street.   ;D

Can you tell me if you were using family search.org or hugh wallis site?

Priscilla,
Thanks a bunch.
I did check the IGI but must have missed this one.  I'll do more research and see if this is possibly my Grace Hancock.

On the 1861 census she lists her birthplace as Tawstock and her husband lists his as King's Nympton which from the Devon map I have shows Yarnscombe as half way between their birthplaces.

However, the date is certainly within the possible so I'll hang onto the info as I continue searching.

Thank you again for your help,

Barbara Tracey

I meant Yarnscombe, thanks for the link.

Just  a chuckle from an American.  I couldn't find the right place on the website until I finally realized in UK it would be an enquiry form.

Thanks again.

I am looking for birth/baptism information on MATTHEW FISHER of Yarncombe Devon.  All available census show him in Yarncombe but the 1861 census mentions birth as Kings Nympton.  Birth year approximately 1803 to 1807.

I've searched Hugh Wallis' site and can find no record.  I would like to know if anyone else may have this information?

His wife Grace (Hancock) was born in Tawstock possibly around 1809 1810.  Would love confirmation of her birth/baptism also.

Any links or helpful information is appreciated as the Canadian/US family tree is completed.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Marshfield Lookup please BLAKE
« on: Friday 18 June 10 18:09 BST (UK)  »
I'm researching a maternal line married into the Blakes.  I have a lookup that says Louisa Blake of North Wraxall  was born/baptized in Marshfield parish in 1816, and her parents were Ann and James Blake.

I realize how common the Blake name is in this part of England :)  I was hoping someone could give me information on Ann and James, in particular Ann's maiden name if possible?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Thank you so much for your help.  I believe this is the person I am searching for.  I was given a date of 1817 so this date is on the money, and the town is one of the possibilities I had researched.

Thank you again for your help.  It moves me a little closer in tracing family.
