I have been searching the Lanchester Workhouse and found a long list of names by looking at the Census1881....the workhouse is in the main street and a long way thro' the census....I think one side of the road was completed then out into the countryside before returning to complete the rest.

Durham / Re: Hill Top or Hilltop near Greatham or Claxton?
« on: Wednesday 09 December 09 23:42 GMT (UK)  »
I am not aware of Hill Top farm in Greatham or the adjoining area of Claxton, however council houses at the southside of Greatham are called Hill View. they look towards the River Tees and Cleveland Hills maybe that is the reason for their name...I visited this area as a country bobby in the 1960-1990s.
