Hi Dav, thanks for all of that

you can check out quite a bit of detail on Darch in philadephia on google book link

http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=7TSs-hmJYYIC&pg=PA8&dq=bretton+darch+philadelphia&hl=en&ei=fR4XTs73BYeyhAeNlenMBQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CDAQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q&f=false

My interest in the Halls starts with Richard Clarke of Bridwell in your area and after he died his wife Mary married Samuel Hall a non conformist minister  from Tiverton  whose son Jonathan Hall married  Mary Darch . A Hall friend in the USA is chasing down his family who arrived in Taunton in the late 1600's marrying into the Wyndham family and subsequently one of his sons, Benjamin Hall was mayor of Taunton in 1752 and one of his family Sarah married Robert Manley. With all the inter connections we are fairly sure that this Robert was mayor of Taunton in 1760 but cannot yet be certain its one and the same. We are also trying to chase down where John Hall, father of Benjamin came from before marrying Beata Wyndham. A Elizabeth Pearse was widow of Weeks Hole of Sidbury area .A Hole earlier had a grandson Phillip Darch and is linked in deeds at Woolavington - thats the one I myself am after! I havent yet worked out exactly who he married in the Darch clan to make him grandad!  Later one of the Pearse's married a Lethbridge and lots of the Darch lands went awol after Thomas fled to America.  Im awaiting copies of court records at Kew to see if they will throw any light on the rest of the family. These properties ended up with Richard Hall Clarke who eventually sold them to another Hole after they had been contested for several generations! That particular Darch line had many vicars and is now extinct in the UK through lack of male heirs - with a remote possibility of the family surviving in America through one of his sons.
If you can let me have an email address I can send you quite a file on the Philadelpia lot - too big to copy here
Thanks again

Mike

Many thanks Dav that is very useful

Do you by any chance have any of the earlier Manleys or close relatives  marrying into any of the Siderfin, Hole, Pearse, Jeanes, Halliday Wellman or Wyatt familes  -  if you do that might just about complete a big missing piece of my jigsaw

Cheers
Mike

(Thomas Darch did in fact follow his wife and some of his children to Philadelphia where he died in 1799 - it looks as though he lost most of his immense wealth after the French War and sent them on ahead of him where his wife established quite a good business for her and the children - more details available should you want them - Joan died after him )

Thanks.  Dick and I are working together on this one and unfortunately we have all the family apart from these 3 baptisms. It was only the recent find where Miriam (Mariam in 1851) filled in her own census return in 1851 that enabled us to believe that all 3 will probably have been born in Tiverton and as yet I dont think there are any online options for this town

Devon Lookup Requests / Tiverton Baptisms 1805 - 1815 - DARCH
« on: Monday 23 May 11 09:04 BST (UK)  »
Could anybody possibly look up the baptism records of Richard Darch, Mark Mayo Darch,Miriam Darch - children of John Darch and Mary Mayo from sampford Peverell who moved to Southwark London in the early 1800,s    -   Miriam is found in Southwark in the 1841,51 and 61 census's with 1851 showing her birthplace as Tiverton. They have earlier siblings from SP but we cannot find these 3 baptisms. Mark died in 1840 in Southwark, Richard went bankrupt several times but we know he was alive from 1841 - 1846, Maria his wife is found in 1851 and 1861 as married but with no record of Richard being found - she wasnt shewn as widowed!
Many thanks

Hi Dav

Sorry but I have now found Edward Manleys will  - he died 1784 and although he had a wife and daughter both Joan, this I now know is not the Joan that married Thomas Darch in 1761.  I do suspect though that the Joan I am looking for is a relative of his and likely to be one of his brothers daughters -  Edward had a nephew James a surgeon in Taunton and it might be him that is mentioned in some of our other deeds Do you know of any of Edwards siblings by any chance?

Thanks Mike

Hi Dav

I have Edward Manley  son of Edward married to Joan Churley in Hemyock in 1742
they had 3 children Edward b 1745 Uffculme, Joan b1746 and I believe Henry Churley Manley.
Joan was married to Thomas Darch in Taunton 1761 -  whose daughter married Jonathan Hall

I am trying to tie these Manleys in with Robert Manley who married Sarah Hall in Taunton about 1750 and with earlier connections to Jonathan and Samuel Hall. I am intrigued by your earlier marriage of a Robert Manley and Joan Churley and wonder if you can give me any more details

Many Thanks
Mike
