Dublin / Re: "Adoption" ???
« on: Sunday 07 September 25 12:11 BST (UK)  »
Hope I am not jumping to wrong conclusion Aghadowey but your post does suggest to me that you are branding me as a time waster. I gave a brief background to a question about possible loopholes to adoption in Ireland. I have gained great benefits from Rootschat over last 7/9 years between good info and linking with relatives I had known about. To be branded any sort of a pest is to say the least disappointing. Hopefully I got your post wrong
Your post outlining relevant info on my tree was all accurate but all of I have known for a couple of years now and actually put my complicated family tree into a 109 page book which I had printed. My mother and her twin brother were born in 1916 and 4 years later were baptised with names they used throughout their lives. When I finally traced their origins where they were in the 4 years was not important to me but always in back of mind to find out the details of their "adoption" Hence my op as you call it
No matter, I am a great admirer of Rootschat and would  be sorely disappointed to be dumped out

Dublin / "Adoption" ???
« on: Friday 05 September 25 17:24 BST (UK)  »
MY mother and her twin brother were born in November 1916 in Liverpool. Soon after they were baptised in St Columba Church Liverpool. Few week later in Dublin they were baptised again. In 1920 they were baptised again in Dublin.

The birth was to a couple Wallis and Matilda Darlington, both normally resident in Dublin

First Baptism was in Liverpool and parents were the same Wallis and Matilda Darlington

Second baptism in Dublin the parents were Matilda and Patrick Walsh. Right up to date this couple were the biological parents thanks to DNA results

Third baptism in 1920 Dublin the parents were a John Derwin and Annie Derwin. The twins were baptised as John Oliver Derwin and Mary Patricia Derwin

The big question, no legal adoption in Ireland until 1952 so how did 1920 baptism indicate the twins had been adopted ??

I and my siblings assumed the Derwins were our biological grandparents until 1994 which was 20 years after mother died in 1974. Was a little surpise to us !!!

Looking for advice as to whether in 1920 Ireland there was loopholes in law that allowed such "adoptions" ?

Hi Kerry Adams

Only spotted your post tonight

In 1974 my mother died. In 1994 twenty years later we discovered by accident her parents ( grandparents) were not her biological parents. In 2017, thanks to DNA I pinned down that a Matilda Adams Darlington was the biological mother . Have gathered a lot of info since and no problem sharing.
I know the name William was followed through so assume you are the daughter of a William or a child of a William.

I live in Dublin

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Subscription to Ancestry ?
« on: Monday 21 April 25 16:08 BST (UK)  »
Tested DNA with Ancestry in 2016 and did well with results. Over years did enjoy without subscription shared matches, ThruLines, Maternal/Paternal breakdown and a few other useful assists. All little benefits disappeared 1 or 2 years ago and I miss them as part of the hobby. Okay, ready to pay but wondering what exactly I will get for my few bob, will my little benefits be available again ? TIA

World War One / Re: Location of a soldier Jan/Feb 1916

Are getting the information from Baptism records    CORRECTED DATE
St Columba Liverpool

Ruth bap 6 December 1916 parents Wallis Darlington and Matilda - father Soldier address 53 Great Orford Street Liverpool (reg 1st quarter 1917)

Rupert bap 6 December 1916 same parents and address (he was not reg until next quarter)

Need the actual birth certificate £1.50 if you can get a PDF copy.

Fascinating, no idea the twins were baptised in Liverpool soon after their births. The father of Matilda (Adams) Darlington died on 29 December in Dublin so I assumed Matilda came home for his funeral as the twins were baptised in her local COI church St Judes Inchicore Dublin. Have record of the baptisms and the later baptisms in 1920 when the twins were "adopted" by the couple who I and my family assumed were the biological parents. That is until 20 years after mother died we discovered she was   "adopted". However no adoption in Ireland until 1952and  this alone is why the story of the twins turned into a saga that took me 23 years to unravel, thanks to Ancestry DNA

Mother and twin brother were born November 1916 in Liverpool. Birth cert said parents were Wallis and Matilda (Adams) Darlington long journey and long story but Wallis was not the father of the twins. Now know Wallis was in Gallipoli in August 1915 (He survived the war) but would like to know where he was located in Jan/Feb 1916 when the twins were conceived. Grateful for any help

« on: Sunday 10 March 24 19:26 GMT (UK)  »
Understand a John Stein and Mary Sproule were the parents of a child baptised in St Marys Cathedral in 1859. Have I any hope of getting confirmation of this baptism ?
