The people who lived in the hutments were waiting for that estate behind what is now Sainsburys to be built, they then moved in.  My dad who is still alive lived at Third Avenue, he describes the huts as being quite big, roughly divided into three bedrooms with a toilet tacked on the end. They also had large pipes running round from the fire which helped keep the chill off.  All the residents had to maintain their large garden in good order, they could book to have baths at the wash house, which also had showers.  The site supported a small general shop near the entrance.  the white Heather Camp was nearby but not the same site.

Thanks for all the support on this from everyone who took the time to reply and for putting me right about the dates, He may well be the younger of the two men mentioned, I have a feeling his family were connected to the railway at Gorton originally.

I have found a burial record at Southern Cemetery of a man who may be my grandfather, the burial number is 93792, name David Lynch, Date of burial 12/01/1924, burial Ground C of E Section S grave 182, he would have been about 30-40 years of age, I have searched on all the free sites for a record of his death without success, so a bit of a mystery.  Any help would be appreciated, if anyone is every down there and can check this man's age I would be grateful.
