Hi Dee.
I don't know who Thomas McGuinness was. But I do remember when I was a child in the 60s, my mother used to take us to visit someone on royal Canal Terrace. (That's behind the stone wall near broadstone ?) They had a boxer dog!

From what I can see, Sarah was a house keeper and Kate was a dressmaker.
Regards.

Hello Dee.
I haven't been here in a long time. Kind'a lost touch.
Bertie (Bernard) was a close friend of my grandparents. According to my mother, he may have been, what she called, a foundling. an abandoned or orphaned child.
this is what I think is the family in 1911

This may be the family in 1901. The ages don't add up, but that's not unusual.

Let me know what you think.

Cavan / Re: McManus family of Kilmore, Cavan

Hi.
It's probable a long shot, but there's a McManus family from  Derrylin, just over the border in Fermanagh. A band that was known as the mama's boys, were 3 brothers. One of them now has his own band, The Pat McManus Band. Great Guitar player. easy to find on google.

Hi there,
I have some relatives connected to the grand canal also, but further west. Clondalkin area.
haven't managed to do any research in that area yet, but I have been told that Waterways Ireland head office in Enniskillen may have Archives of some interest.

My Grandmother Mary Kennedy was married from 4 Royal Canal Terrace in 1922 so perhaps she knew Bertie and family.
upon searching for her mother also Mary Kennedy on the 1939 Register of Electors i found what i believe to be her at 4 Phibsborough Road cant find any Royal Canal Terrace 1939.
Similarly i found Sarah Ryan at 8 Phibsborough Road 1939 listed with others same address
Patrick and Agnes Kelly and Patrick Sullivan.
That's right for Sarah. according to my mother she didn't marry but took in orphaned or homeless children. One of them had the name Sullivan. Just like her mother??
Were any of your grandmothers family involved in the war 1920 if so they would indeed have known Bertie. My grandmother was grew up in 188 Phibsborough rd. It was a busy house at that time.

Dublin / Bernard Ryan. executed 1921

Bernard Ryan was one of 10 men executed in mountjoy prison 1921.
He was a friend of my grandparents. I would like to contact anyone connected to him, relative or otherwise. His wike page seems inaccurate to me.

This I believe is his 1911 census

Dublin / witness statements
« on: Sunday 19 August 12 20:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
There has been some talk lately in the media regarding witness statements from 1916 or the war of independence. I gather there are many hundreds  of them and have been recently published on line.
I can't find them?? Tried military archives, no luck. Could anyone post the link if they know it please.
Regards.
