Monica,

Thank you for your response, the problem with Mary Anderson as AJ's first wife is the absence of any children or any records after the Echt/Banchory marriage entries.

We have entries of births of children to AJ and a Jane X in  St.John the Baptist Croydon,Surrey, and St.Dunstan's, Stepney from 1818 to 1830, but no surname for Jane. Was she English or Scottish?

Also any records of James Jamieson, AJ's father are missing to date.

Also clarification of AJ's school, early marine life experience  are gaps in family knowledge.

We have a little about Margaret Daniel his mother.

Kent / Re: Vandepeers from Sheerness

Thanks Carole for the lead on wills, it is my belief that the Reculver Vandepeers were a separate branch from the Sheerness families, however I am trying to find the link.
In the 1700's and early 1800's marriages were usually restricted to just a few miles within a village, and the distance between Reculver and Sheerness was considerable for regular contacts.

But any input showing the links will be appreciated.

Aberdeenshire / Alexander Jamieson of Cruden

Below is a transcript of the entry for the Christening of Alexander Jameson, Cruden, Aberdeen, Scotland. Ref: 185/00 0002 Fr501

July 2nd 1788
James Jameson in Tillymaud had a child ?(begot in adultery with Margaret Daniel in Easter Gask  as the said Marg. Daniel affirms), baptised and named Alexander, witnesses: John Daniel and Geo Barclay.

Margaret Daniel baptised Cruden 22 Jan 1754, died 8 Feb 1843.

Alexander went to sea at an early age and by 1812 was sailing regularly between Leith and London.

He then captained the Trusty between London and Australia conveying both convicts and free settlers, before settling in Port Adelaide in 1853.

He had 20 children from 3 marriages. We can identify his 2nd (Mary Wilson- 3 children) and 3rd (Helen Aiken-8 children) wives, and their children. At this time he was living in Hermitage St. in Stepney and St.Dunstan's records have provided details of the marriages and baptisms.

But firm evidence is missing for his first marriage and 9 children, oral history says he married about 1819 to a Mary Anderson, but we need confirmation?

Can any one help?

Kent / Vandepeers from Sheerness

We are looking for birth/family records for William James Vandepeer born about 1830 at Sheerness, son of William James Vandepeer and Christianna Munns, birtdates unknown.
William James II married Susan Bryson 11th May 1854 at Minster, and they emigrated to South Australia on the Lord of the Isles that same year. We can find no details for Susan Bryson.
There are many Vandepeers BMD at Sheerness, but no apparent connection between the many Thomas and Edwards and William James.
Can anyone help us make the correct connections?

To Jo,

Thanks for your research, yes all of those baptisms were William and Anna's children, my ggrandfather was Leonard Samuel who emigrated to Adelaide, South Australia in 1850.

The RO index of Freemen of the City of Chester confirms family oral history but the indenture detail is news.
William left Dent in 1803 and joined the English Army, Regiment unknown, finally being discharged from Chelsea Hospital in 1816 medically unfit, after his final posting in the 5th Royal Veterans Regiment.
He was supposed to retire to Kendal, so the reason for his move to Chester is still a mystery.

Thanks very much with such a quick response, no wonder he disappeared off the map, I looked on Free BMD but obviously missed him.
There are no family records I could find showing his death.

I am researching descendants of William Burton ( born Dent WRY 1780, died Chester 1844) pawnbroker of Shoemaker's Row, married Anna Garrett 1817 in St.Martins,Chester.
In particular his grandson William Middleton Burton, Christened St.John's 9th May 1869, last reference I can find is attending funeral of his father James John Burton 17 June 1891.
He is listed in 1881 census with his parents.
Also at the funeral were sons-in-law Raingill, Simpson, Middleton.

William Middleton Burton then seems to disappear, although he could be the William Burton who married a Mary Frances Dalton in All Saints,Hoole Sept qtr 1903.

Any information from other descendants of William and Anna my, gggrandparents, would be appreciated.
