Hello cyncoedgirl

Well that makes us cousins too.  George became a Blacksmith later and lived in Llys Talybont.  I'm guessing that's the old cottage off North Road.

Oh dear a Tory in the family - that's anathema to me.

I think it is only my aunty who is a Mills  (she is almost 90) is left from the early days.

Yes William was Stephen's older brother.  I saw that William ended up a grocer.  Stephen was the fireman on North Road ... there's a plaque on the house saying "The Fire Station".  I would love to knock the door to ask the residents how they know of the history but have never got around to it.

Major Road eh? I reckon that would have been like the other side of Wales from Llandaff/Cathays in those days.

Do you have old photographs?  There's loads I remember from a kid but I don't know who has them now.  I keep meaning to ask my Aunty but always forget about it.  I remember some of the faces in the photos but it's all very vague.

Definitely the same George.  He lived in the North Road area of Cardiff and yes was married to Elizabeth.  I have a few addresses for him.  It's the Betsy as his mother with no father then getting a step-father that has perplexed me.

I have George born approx. 1855 - his mother's name as Betsy. They were from Shebbear, Devon.   Betsy married John Pierce or Pearce.  Hence I am wondering what happened to George's father.

I'm related to George's son 'Stephen Arthur Leonard George' (My GG Grandfather) born 1868 - I think he went by the name of Arthur.  He had a son Albert Clifford who was my grandad.  My father's middle name was Leonard too.  The only family member still alive is Aunty Betty (Lillian Elizabeth) who is almost 90 and is Albert Clifford's daughter.

Hello MattCardiff

Lovely to meet you.  I guess we are cousins many times removed as I'm the Great Great Great Granddaughter of George .  The names Arthur and Leonard do occur a lot within the family.  Do you have any idea who George's father was?  It's puzzled me for a long time now.

Hello Veneita

Sorry, I know you wrote this three months ago, but I've only just seen it.

Yes I have the name Lily Smith (My grandmother).  She died young in Cardiff approx. 1930

Lily's parents came from Ross.  apparently her mother was Spanish

Hope this helps and you can give me names too

I just found the Pearce family in the 1881 British Census.  By now my GGGG Granny has moved a few streets from Augusta Street to  22 Longcross Street, Roath.  It's so strange that I walk past the house almost every day.
