Hi,
Well done.  Firstly, it came to me that St, Helena Smith could be Selina.   Family name.  I digress.
You are quite right about Robert's parents so here goes.   Once again it was all given to me by other trusted root chatters.
Wisdom and Hannah Smith married 3.3.1782 Bletchingham, Oxon.
They had the following children:-
1.Edward  c.4.12.1786 Watford, Northants
2.Eunice/Inity  c.16.1.1792 Long Buckby, Northants.   Married James Smith
She also had a son called Wisdom c. 12.11.1812 who married Eliza Boswell.  Their son also called Widsom who married Priscilla Bayley.  In 1853 he married Amy Haywood.
3.Nathanial   c. 20.12.1792 Long Buckby, Northants married Patience
4.ROBERT c. 20.12.1794 Whitwick, Leics   married Evening Smith
5. Lissy Smith c. 1795 Wovery, Warks.
6 Salvino Smith c. 24.5.1798 Moulton, Notts
7 Bertha/Bethania/Bethany Smith c. 24.8.1800 Seaton, Rutland.  Married William Grayb. circa 1795 aka James Mobbs
8 Tabitha Smith  c. 16.11.1802 Cropwell Bishop, Northants married William Gray c. 1794 Ashwell, Herts - son of Charles & Aqually [Aquila].
9.Solome Smith c. 12.7.1807 Irthingboro, Northants married William Smith 1824 Hepston, Northants.
10.Wisdom Smith b. 1796 Twyford, Leics.   Married Esther Smith 10.5.1813 South Witham, Lincs.   On 1.7.1818 Saltby,Leics he married Maria/Martha Elliott
He had the following children:-
       1. Wisdom c.5.6.1818   Benefield,Northants
       2. Hercules c.20.5.1821 Wansfor, Northants
       3. Offa c. 20.4.1823 Swayfield, Lincs
       4. Maria c. 17.12.1824 Nr. Witham, Lincs
       5 .Abigail c. 22.03.1829 Castle Bytham, Lincs
       6. Matilda c. 17.07.1831 Essendine, Rutland

Evening Smith/Emily/Eveline/Evelin born in 1792 Dunston, Lincs and was christened 17.12.1793 Churchover, Works.  She died in Caunton, Nottins in March 1882 aged 79.     Must have had a 'healthy lifestyle'!
Her parents were Absolom Smith b. 28.2.1768 North Marston, Bucks.   Mother Elizabeth.
Siblings:-   Amy Turtle [Hammi] b. 1.10.1790 Northampton
                 Adam b. 15.2.1800 Northampton
Absolom b. 1802 East Haddon, Northampton
                 Lavenia b. 1804 Naxeby, Northampton.

This will keep you occupied for a 'little while!!
I hope I have transcribed everything correctly and not got mixed up.   [not hard]
Nieve.

Hi Yekal,
Now you have got the bug!!
I couldn't count the number of hours I have spent looking for that Stephen Johnson.  He only appears in the 1881.   His mate Henry Chorley  on the same census is also a missing link!
You have done really well and I must admit that I had to put these people on hold for years because of family.
However, here is the next instalment:-
Children of Robert and Evening Smith.     [It would be easier if they weren't called Smith and they all knew where they were born]
Absolom   c. 24.1.1813 Whatten, Notts
Isabel  c. 10.12.1817  Wymondham
Resevoi   c. 14.12.1822  Ab Kettleby, Leics.   Registered as Sesevoy
St.Helean  c.3.4.1825 Ibstock, Leics
Noah c. 8.7.1827  Billesden, Leics
Robert   b.30.12.1829 Melton Mowbray
Thomas   c. 15.6.1834 Harby, Leics.
I must add that these details have been passed on to me by another dedicated searcher.
I am sure I am not the only one whose life can easily be taken overKeep K by these ancestors!
It is frustrating that Will and Res. were married in Wymondham 5.7.1841 and parents were in Wymondham for the 1841 census.
Keep searching,
Nieve.

Hi Yekal,
No I am sorry I do not have my tree on the web, but I will help.
Firstly, are you looking at the Stephen Johnson on Freebmd, born Northampton in 1842.   If you follow this man through all his life you will see that he is not our SJ.  In 1881 he is with his wife Sarah in Northampton still making boots.  That was a red herring I found years ago.
Romanies liked to be under the radar and very often they used 2 names - a romany one and an anglicised version just to make life difficult.   Sometimes you will see on a census written by the enumerator   ' caravan in field - 6 men   3 women and some children.   Very helpful.   Obviously he must have been nervous of them.
Start by looking on 1841 for Robert and Evening Smith in Leicester and see where it takes you!    Robert classed himself as a Brazier and horse dealer!  They were Reservoir's parents.   I am drip feeding you!  I think it is a bigger sense of achievement when you put all the pieces together yourself.  I hope you agree!
The travelling people site on rootschat is invaluable.
Nieve.

Hi Yekal,
Is this the Hubert that was a postman in  Beswick in 1911.   Where was he in 1901?
Yes, I am in the UK, in the northwest .
Stephen Johnson, their father is also a mystery.   Selina never married him because she married a Sam. Eckersley in 1889 and gave her name as Drury!
Why is he a mystery?   Could it be because he was a married man and did a 'runner'.   I was always told that he was a very well educated man, but very, very strict and that they off together with  both families disowning  them!   Very romantic.    In the 1881 census he gave his birthplace as Floor, Northampton. which I am led to believe was a well-known gypsy area.
By the way did you know you were descended from gypsies?
Drewery;-   The nearest I have ever got to William is a Henry Drewery aged 24 born in Boston in the 1851 census classed as a Glass Hawker!
I have Will and Reservoir's marriage and her death certificate   Unfortunately. there are no fathers/family mentioned on the marriage one.
I repeat with the help of other very experienced folk I have a lot of other info i.e.
Reservoi - c. 14.12.1822 Ab Kettleby, Leics.    She was registered at as Sesevoy Smith - Father Robert described as a gypsy man of Folville.
As a taster Robert Smith, who was married to Evening, was the son of Wisdom and Hannah Smith who were married in 1782 Bletchingham, Oxon.
They got around a bit!
It gets very complicated and you need a huge notebook.

Hi Yekal,
Firstly. I think William must have been quite a wealthy man according to his will!!!
His daughter Selina was my great grandmother, which child are you descended from?   Was it Amelia, Hezekiah, or William?
Here goes!    With the excellent and very kind help from other Root Chatters I learnt the following:-
Reservoir Smith married William Drewry 5.7.1841 Wymondham.    Robert's rank or profession was Gypsy. Reservoir  died 9.11.1859 aged 36 at Timber Hill, Melton Mowbray.
Her  mother was Evening Smith b. 1792 in Dunston, Lincs and was christened 17.12.1792 Churchover, Warwick.
She died in Caunton, Nottingham March 1872 aged 79.
Evening was married to Robert Smith c.20.12.1792 Whitwick, Leics.
Robert was the son of Wisdom and Hannah Smith who were married 3.3.1782 Bletchingham, Oxon.
Is this enough to be going on with or do you want more because there are a lot of Smiths!
I'm sorry but William is still a mystery.
Nieve.

Hi Yekal,  This is a blast from the past.   Yes, I have quite a lot of info. about Reservoir but nothing on William.  Who were your ancestors?
Have you the census info about their children so that I don't repeat myself.   Have you looked at the Travelling People Site going back to Nov. 09?

Hi Carole oh and Jvy 20.   Once again thank you for your input, interest and kindness.   My next plan is to contact Prescot Library/Registrar next week when I have more time.   If that fails I will contact the St.Helens FHS.  Carol oh - thank you for your offer of the photographs, I will bear them in mind  now I know that there is some photographic history to 'put more meat on the bones' .   To be continued......Nieve.

Hi everyone.   Let me just stand back and look again because I think the water has become a little bit muddied!    Where did Ellen get to in 1886?   Don't know, just presumed she had 'done a runner' never to be seen again and probably living over the brush!    Then along came Ellen Rourny!!!   Could this be her?   Can we just suppose she was living with John ? and then she became poorly and died.   Yes, if it was her brother he would have called himself Moran, so I don't think he was.   If she was living with someone she would have taken his name for appearance sake.   As she was born in St.Helens I don't think she would have had  much of an Irish accent.  I think that when John had to face the registrar, perhaps he panicked. and thought that he had better give her true name.    Perhaps he had an Irish twang.  Who knows?   Anyway I am following Carole oh's advice and I am going to write to the St.Helens Family History Society to see if they solve this mystery, because there is still the missing grave.  Or do I just want her to be my great grandmother?        To be continued........ Nieve.

Hi everybody, thank you all for interest and input.   How easy is it to find out whether Sutton Road, Rainhill was a hospital or a private address?    If it was just a private address then Ellen died in her own little bed, but if it was a hospital then there may be records.  Next point is:-  The name Rooney was crossed out and corrected.    Obviously John instructed the registrar.   I think, by the absence of records, that he made that name up in a hurry/panic/or the registrar misheard him.   Either way, it looks a little fishy!    Next:-   Where was she buried.   The St.Helens grave site has no records of her and I can't see her being buried any further afield.   If she was buried in any Catholic Church graveyard then wouldn't it still be listed in the St.Helens grave site?   My next plan is, as Carole oh suggested, is to write to St.Helens library to see if they have any info. about Ellen Rourny.    Thank you Heywood - I have read the topic you mentioned.   Carole oh - just reading your last message.   You mentioned that Sutton Road runs along side of Peasley Cross Lane.   In the 1881 census they all lived at 110 Peasley Cross Lane, which means that she was, if it is her, familiar with the area.   To be continued.........Nieve.
