Hi Adam, I have lost track of our correspondance. I emailed you last year.
this is what I sent:

to amg1602

Hello Adam,
Maybe we have been in touch before. I am Helen who you refer to in the reply on the posts. I have been on this family search quest for so many years now, I have forgotten who I have been in touch with over the years.
Mary Maguire was my great grandmother who married Michael Smith in 1859 at Mintaro.
I assume you have seen the book on the Maguires, "No Ordinary Life" written by Glenda Hocking some years ago.
Have you done DNA? My results are on FtDNA, also gedmatch and My Heritage.
happy to discuss further with you.
Kind regards,
Helen (Jess on the Rootschat page)

Hi, This is my family too. Different people say the father was Peter, some say Philip. My ancestor's wedding certificate says her father was Philip Maguire. I have not been able to find any actual documents that I can be certain pertain to our family in Ireland, but of course we do have many in South Australia.
My ancestor Mary and your Bernard are half siblings, with different mothers. I am not sure how to Direct message you.

Australia / Re: Bruno HINTZ alias Wilfred BENTLEY

Thanks Cando. I had written a lengthy reply to you and the power dropped out! Lost all my info.

I think all children were Bruno's /Wilfred's. Note she called Alice (bentley) Dollman. An aunt wrote a letter to my grandma saying all the children were christened in Bentley name. Alice died aged 19 and is buried at Williamstown sa. (name Hintz--informant her grandad-Heinrich)

My grandma's wedding certificate 1911 says father; Wilfred Bentley; whereabouts unknown.

Mystery man!

May have ended up interstate although I have looked. As you say if he changed his name, makes it a challenge!

Australia / Bruno HINTZ alias Wilfred BENTLEY
« on: Friday 18 June 10 12:45 BST (UK)  »
Bruno Alfred August Hintz was born 23 august 1870 in Lyndoch, Barossa Valley South Australia. His parents were Heinrich and Marie Hintz. In 1896-7 he married Lillian Dollman in Box Hill Victoria under an assumed name Wilfred Bentley. (He had been in yatala prison) He and Lillian had 6 children and had moved back to south Australia.
In 1904 they were living in Parkside when Lillian died after an illness lasting several months in Adelaide hospital. Florence Ethel Bentley was my grandmother. I am unsure who looked after her and her siblings after her mothers death. I know a brother was raised by Bruno's half sister Ottilie who married a Winton and her other brother Herbert was raised by a Mrs Reynolds. Her sister Alice died in 1910 and is buried in Wlliamstown SA. Florence was married in 1911 to Arthur Rains. I would dearly love any information on who raised the girls after Lillian's death. Bruno/Wilfred left the scene completely and I have been unable to find a death anywhere in Australia. Also there were two other sisters, to Florence: Vera Kathleen who I have no information on, born to Lillian in 1897 and Alma Gladys born 1895.

Hoping someone can shed some light on these mysteries.

Hi JD,
I am descendant of Charles  Dollman in Birmingham. His son Charles Arthur Dollman came to Melbourne Australia in 1870. You say they are not connected, but have you come across any info that may be relevant to my hunt in your searches. ?
It seems both our 'families' ended up in Australia as I know some of the Dollman Parmenters went to Adelaide.

Thanks, jess

The family Bible owned by Florence and Arthur Rains formerly of Mildura Victoria has disappeared.

If seen please advise. Anecdotally it held much family history!

Family Bibles / Wanted: Rains family Bible-Australia
« on: Friday 06 November 09 09:06 GMT (UK)  »
My grandmother Florence Ethel Rains had  a family Bible which has gone missing since her daughter in law's death.
Florence apparently kept family information in the Bible. On her death in 1944, it passed to her husband Arthur Rains, living in Mildura Victoria at the time. At his death it passed to his son Sid. Both Sid and his wife are deceased with no children. If anyone sees it in their travels, please let me know.
Much of their  (Forence and Arthur's) married life was spent in South Australia.

Wow, thanks for that site. that will keep me busy for  a while. :) :)

I don't know who looked after her. I did find on the Australian digital newspapers in the Advertiser of 2 jan 1906, the "Court happy Home" conducted a picnic day and in the list of prize winners, a FLorrie Bentley won the 'recitation for girls'. It may just be  a coincidence but is  a good lead to follow now I have that web site. Thank you.
