Thanks for all this.  I had suspected Ellen as a sister of John James.
Will need to take all this in!
Thanks again.

Thanks, a few extra names there. So your mum woul dbe a cousin of my fathers.  I remember as a wein visitng folks when he would have gone fishing (and I stayed with granny in Alfred St back then).  We would have gone to Evelyn and Angus Mackie's and I remember Kinkaids and Esdale Craig, who would have been a bit younger than my dad.  We spent a lot of time with Hazel Ritchie and indeed the last time I met a lot of people would have been her funeral.
We visited so many people back then and I do not remember many of them.  I remember visiting out in Newbuildings and have no idea.  I also remember visiting more out into the country and a row of three or four houses sitting back from a main road, but no idea who or where.
My dad had prepared with me and my brother a rough tree, but this went missing after he died, but in any case was mainly Smallwoods, which was smaller as my grandfather was an only child.
I now live in Fermanagh and have no contact with anyone from the McGinley side.  Recently caught up with Adrian Wray's son, Darren, but he knows very little of the McGinley family.  We used to visit Florrie a lot in Ballysillan when my dad would have looked after her garden.  Also remember her being forced out of Atlantic Ave in Nelfast at the start of the troubles.
Would love to meet up with some of the McGinley's some time soon.

I had my granny's brother and sisters -
John James (born and died in 1899)
Kathleen (Born Apr 1900) married a Thomas Moore with family, Evelyn (married Angus Mackie) Florence (married Hugh Walker) Hazel (married Jim Ritchie) and Uel (married Deirdre Norris)
Ellen (Born Mar 1901) - is this the Nellie you mention with a son Harold?
Florence (Born Jan 1903) married a Thomas Wray with family Adrian, Marion and Norma (knew them as they lived in Belfast)
Herbert (Born Nov 1904) married a Mary Leith with daughter Eleanor - your mother?
Jack (born Sept 1906)
Evelyn (Born July 1908) married James Kinkaid with family Andrew Kinkaid - I didn't know about a Lesley!
Norman (Born Aug 1910) married Matilda Bond with family Mervyn, Norma, Raymond and Wesley
Doris - my gran
Harold - born 1918
Olive (Born Feb 1920) married William Craig with family Esdale, Alan and Lorraine.

Their parents were John James McGinley and Ellen McMullin and her parents were James McMullin & Catherine McComb.

It's John James McGinley I get stuck at as I cannot find a birth and on the census he says he's from Londonderry and the only births appear to be in Donegal.  His father was John according to the marriage certificate but that's all I have.
I have found another John McGinley married a Margaret Taylor, and I have an Ellen McGinley who was also in Bonds Street and may be a sister of my great grandfather, but don't know for sure.

I do not know if this is 100% correct and any corrections or additions would be great, along with any info on John James McGinley's parents, where he was from etc.

Hi
I am indeed Jim Smallwoods son, Andrew.
I had bother identifying the mcginley line beyond my great grandfather as census records showed born in londonderry but couldn't find birth.
I know of many of the lines from my granny's siblings but haven't been in contact with anyone.
Any details would be much appreciated.

If you have any contact details for any of the McGinley's I would appreciate it.
I know of my grandmother's brothers and sisters, but having moved away when I was young, have little contact with anyone, apart from Florrie's grandson in Belfast and he isn't able to provide any information.

"Wasn't the father of the William who married Rebecca Moore also a William?

I thought this may be Joseph's son, William:

and that William's wife is Mary Eliza Park (note she was born in America)."

You could well be right, I do not have the precise marriage details for William and Rebecca Moore.
This was outside my immediate family tree and I have a lot of "mini" Smallwoods' trees.
I do have details of the William who married Eliza and it could be Joseph's son.

Have now, using rootsireland search, which allows for including a father's name, managed to confirm that a Joseph Smallwoods was indeed noted as father of Isabella Bovaird Smallwoods, so looking more and more likely that earlier research indications were correct and that this is she (If this is the case, I supppose it is always possible that as well as being the surname of his first wife, Bovaird may also have been a name linked to Joseph's family too,  from a grandmother or suchlike):

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Londonderry/Tamnaherin/Killennan/1528214/

Obviously, if anyone ever manages to get sight of the marriage record, an address on same may prove the final confirmation.

Marriage certificate confirms Isabella's address as Killenan.

I've been trying to link information on Smallwoods into my tree and found this confusing - Are we saying that Joseph who married Margaret Bovaird then remarried an Eliza J (probably Simpson)?
I see a Margaret Smallwoods died in 1866.

Aghadowey again, I see your Henry arrived May 11th 1914 and gives his place of birth as Boveva, Limavady and notes his mother, Rebecca Smallwoods,  as being his nearest relative in country he has left.

A Martha Smallwoods, also of Boveva, goes to America later in 1914 (October 19th). She notes her father as nearest relative and names him as James Smallwoods of Boveva.

Maybe they were brother and sister, if so, then you have both parents' names.

I believe this Martha may be the daughter of James Smallwoods who married Mary Elizabeth Nutt on 25/1/1881 at Bovevagh Presbyterian and who are on the 1901 and 1911 censuses in Bovevagh.
Children - William James b 17/6/1882
Maggie b Dec Qtr 1884
Mary Eliza b 10/6/1887
Martha b 28/4/1889
Robert John b 20/1/1893
Alfred P b Sept Qtr 1896.

Have this connection in my husband's family tree:
Henry/Harry Smallwood (b.c1894 probably Co.Derry) m.(c1920) Annette Christie (born c1896 Drumadreen?, Limavady area). Son William born c1924- not sure if there were other children.
1920 Census- Chicago, Illinois: Harry Smallwood is a fireman with railroad? He to U.S.1914 and wife Annette to U.S. 1913.
1930 Census- Chicago, Illinois: Henry Smallwood is now engineer with __ railway, to U.S. 1915. Wife Annette also to U.S. 1915.
1956 Harry & Annette still living in Chicago area.

I have some details may relate to this branch -
William Smallwoods (born c1860 and died between 1901 & 1911 censuses) married a Rebecca Moore (born c1857) Scriggan Presbyterian, Dungiven 7/8/1879 -
Margaret (born 26/6/1880) who married a David Hutton on 27/12/1900, Bovevagh Presbyterian, with children Martha Jane (born c1903), Maggie (born c1904) and Annie (born c1906) per 1911 census living at Ardinarive, Straw
John (born 23/11/1882)
Samuel (born 17/7/1885)
Elizabeth Rebecca (born 12/3/1888)
Herbert (born 15/7/1889)
Henry (born 11/1/1892) - is this the Henry emigrated to USA?
Annie Mary (born 7/5/1894)
William (born 12/2/1897)

I have suspicions that William (who married Rebecca Moore) may be from the following -
Joseph Smallwoods married Margaret Bovaird at Holy Trinity COI, Cumber Lower on 1/9/1857 -
William (born 30/11/1860) at Brackfield and baptised at Lower Cumber COI 27/1/1861
Thomas (born 11/2/1863) again at Brackfield and baptised at Lower Cumber on 29/3/1863
Samuel (born 21/12/1864) baptised at Lower Cumber on 26/3/1865)

My tree "starts" with a Samuel Smallwoods marrying an Elizabeth Dollas on 17/12/1857 @ Dungiven Presbyterian Church and I wonder if Joseph (who marries Margaret Bovaird) is his brother?
