Hello Dawn,
I was aware that the GRO had dropped the Reference Checking option but it is possible to use a 'work-around' to get the GRO to do a search of sorts with specified checking details.

Where the initial Certificate Choice Form asks, under 'For all events', Is the GRO Index Reference known, tick 'No' even though you may know it. A new window will open allowing you to specify parents' names in the case of a birth. For marriages you can specify the name of the fathers for both bride and groom.

As far as I know they will do a search one year either side of the year you specify. The last time I used this tweak the correct cert was not found and they issued a refund after charging a search fee.

Thanks again KathB. It's only about 50 years since I had a drink in Parkgate, although it sometimes feels like a lot more, and the area has changed so much since then.

Hi,
Thank for the response.
I got the address from a 1945 death cert which reads Parkgate, Neston. I know the village of Parkgate on the Dee, so now I am wondering if there is an area in Neston also called Parkgate?

Cheshire / STREET DIRECTORY - WIRRAL - mid to late 1930s
« on: Thursday 20 January 11 11:59 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
Hope this is in the right place!

Anyone out there with access to a Wirral street directory which includes Parkgate [in the district of Neston] from about the mid-1930s to the early 1940s? Looking for occupiers of 31 Moorfield Drive, Parkgate.

Believe this estate was built in the mid 30s. I know that by 1945 a Henry and Hilda Roberts were there. Trying to find out when they might have moved in. Any an old telephone directories around in case they had a phone? Or Electoral Rolls for the area?

I would strongly recommend Brother's Keeper. I have used it for several years. It is not expensive at around $25. But it is extremely comprehensive. I believe it can do most, if not all, that you want it to do.
Find it here: http://www.bkwin.com or http://www.bkwin.net

The all-important backup support from the author John Steed is no less than superb. He usually responds within 24 hours if you have a problem using the program. You could also try-before-you-buy and confirm with the author that the program will do what you need.

Hi,
Hartshead village appears to have been under the control of Aston-under-Lyne Council for many years. As Ashton is now under the Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council, it would be a good idea to see what the  Tameside archives have in relation to the village. With luck it may have had a local newspaper. There's a contact facility here: http://www.tameside.gov.uk/

Hi,
I don't think the Moreton factory is the one in this case. The reference is in the 1911 census and I am fairly sure that factory was built some years after WW2 by Cadbury to make chocolate biscuits and later their cake range. I remember the gorgeous smell as we took our children past the factory on the way to the beach.
