Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / cause of death on certificate
« on: Sunday 01 December 24 16:11 GMT (UK)  »
Can anybody help decipher what this cause of death is please because I'm stumped with it. Can't make it out at all. I'm usually not too bad with stuff like this but have never seen this one before. All help gratefully received.
He's Edwin Jones, male, 2 years, Son of John Jones a gardener, deceased. Cause of death is certified, whatever the cause actually is. The informant was Eliza Jones present at the death, Nunney.
Had to crop the image a bit to allow it to upload.
Thanks

Wow that's really interesting, thank you. Chapman was an importer, so whatever ingredients he was using were being shipped in from somewhere else. This explanation certainly makes more sense than the word "perfumer" first brings to mind.

Ahhhhh that kind of makes sense. Long story, but I'm looking at a group of men who all seemed to be involved in importation of things from America, which is quite a surprise, and not what I expected them to be doing. One was involved in sugar and another in cotton. So if this was to do with tobacco it makes more sense than a perfumer as we might think of it. Thanks!!!

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / importer of what?

Any ideas what this might say, and what it means please? "Jno Henry Chapman fund holder, formerly importer of perfumed spirits", or possibly spices. Which is it please? And if it says spirits, does it mean wines or perfumes? First entry on the page.
Thanks

Well you sound to have had a good result there. It would be pointless me taking a DNA test as I'm not actually related to the person I'm looking for. Its part of some research I'm doing. Thanks for the tip though.

Thanks, yes I have applied for these but there is an extremely long wait time, of several months, to obtain these. I'm hoping they will eventually supply some sort of lead to set me off in the right direction.

So... we've got 2 options for 1881:
first born Hodnet, age 24, servant in Withington, Lancashire
second birth town of Oxon, - wrong county - age 24, nurse for Corrie family in Kensington

And 2 options for 1891
first born Salop (transcribed Baeese) age 36 (bit old) hospital nurse at Holdenhurst in Hampshire at a spa hospital
second born Shrewsbury age 31 (bit young) nurse in the household of the Wigan family, in Walton, Surrey
And nothing after that.
Hmmmm....

Oh heck! It's not getting any clearer - there's too many of them, all born about the same time, same place, same occupation!
