Thanks for reply!

For the informant on the birth cert it says "m. Fleming, occupier, 7 Herbert place".
For the death cert it says "n. O Dwyer, occupier, Dublin union."

I suppose my question really is that was there a connection between Herbert place and holles street or are they distinct? If there was a connection, it would explain why it named holles street on death cert, even though he wasn't born there?

Any idea what a "renaul" would be in terms of occupation-I can't upload image from this computer for some reason-I will try later!

Thanks

Dublin / Re: Old IRA Dublin Brigade

Hi all,

I'm reading this thread with great interest as I am currently researching my granduncles involvement with the IRA -he received a gun salute and had his coffin draped at his funeral however beyond that we know very little about what he did. I have applied for pension application records but I'll be waiting a long while before I receive them.

His name was Patrick fitzgerald.
I was interested to see mention of pearse street as he owned a pub on pearse street in the 1930s/1940s (fitzgeralds) which was supposed to have been very popular with IRA members?

I'm interested to hear if his name pops up on any of your records.

Dublin / Queries regarding a death cert of a baby
« on: Sunday 27 November 11 13:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

Looking for some help with some queries I have about a death cert of a child. I am fairly certain it is the cert I'm looking for, however there are some discrepancies- first, the baby was born in June 1931 and the death cert is for December 1931-that would make the baby 6 months old at his death, however the cert says 6 weeks? Is that a common mistake?

Also, the baby was born at 7 Herbert place but the death cert says the baby died in the Dublin union workhouse and was "late of holles street". Was Herbert place an extension of holles street?

Finally, the fathers occupation on the birth cert is grocers assistant and on the death cert it says the child's occupation is "renauls child" (that's what I can see anyway-I will try and upload an image of the cert so you can examine it yourselves! What is a "renauls child"??

Thanks for any help you can give.

Dublin / Re: IRA connection in family research?

Thanks for the replies!

Myluck! that sounds very interesting - what do I need to apply to Renmore for the records? How do I go about it?

zara2513 - I will take some photos of the medals and post them for identification. Interesting that you say the military funeral was done up until late 1960s - this happened in the late 80s?

Thanks for all your help on this matter

Dublin / IRA connection in family research?
« on: Monday 06 September 10 23:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

Hoping you can be of some assistance - while researching the family tree, I heard that at my Great-Grandfathers funeral, a group of IRA men saluted the coffin (not sure if that's the correct description?) in the graveyard. Soon after, we uncovered some medals in the attic, however, they are apparently untraceable. His name was Patrick (Paddy) Fitzgerald.
I'm interested to find out what his likely role within the IRA may have been - did anyone remotely involved with them receive this treatment at their funerals/ receive medals etc or is it likely that he had quite an active role?

Thanks for any help

US Lookup Requests / Re: Joseph Fitzgerald-Arrived New York 1922

Ah, thanks for that Shellyesq - I was wondering why that had a big line through it!  ::)

Thanks for checking that for me though. To be honest, it was a bit of shot in the dark anyway - we know he was born in Ireland but we think he emigrated later on but we have no info on where or when!

US Lookup Requests / Joseph Fitzgerald-Arrived New York 1922
« on: Tuesday 23 February 10 16:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

Looking for a Joseph Fitzgerald, who was born in Carlow, Ireland in 1905 - I have found a record of a Joseph Fitzgerald on board the "Cedric", sailing from Liverpool to New York on Oct 02 1922 but the ship manifest does not give any further details, other than name, age etc, therefore I have not been able to verify this is the same person.

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated - I know his father was John Fitzgerald and his mother Margaret if that helps anyone.

Thanks

US Lookup Requests / Re: 1930 census lookup please!
« on: Tuesday 17 November 09 17:04 GMT (UK)  »
Sorry about that Shellyesq -since I had started that thread not knowing about Patrick McCann and since I was technically asking a different question, I thought I should start a new thread - I'll remember that advice for future, thanks  :)

I don't know anything further about Patrick McCann I'm afraid - the info I received on here  was the first time I heard about him! There is no mention of him on the 1901 census in Ireland so I would guess he was at least 16 or 17 by that time and therefore his date of birth would be mid 1880s or so?

Thanks for that merjones - thats a possibility alright - I'm learning that dates are not set in stone in genealogy!

Finally, my Dad has an idea that Norah died not long after she arrived in the U.S. - about 6/7 years after her arrival so 1936 or so - don't know whether that's true or not though.

Thanks again for all your help and sorry again shellyesq
