Thank-you for your replies I am nearly sure that these Penson families are connect. Lincolnshire is there county source. The name of Marmaduke is a christian name well used in the family.I thought they were mainly farmers carpenters until recently until some militia references cropped up.

I have a marriage in York for a Marmaduke  Penson and Isabella TUNSTALL 16 Jan 1797. it states Marmaduke was a private in the Nottinghamshire militia, I would appreciate advise on furthering my knowledge on this and  would there be records that would give his place of birth?
Thank-you

« on: Monday 19 August 13 22:20 BST (UK)  »
Thomas Harwood was convicted at Nottingham in April 1837 and transported to Van Deimans Land
I am aware he stole 2 handkerchiefs. I would love to obtain the full report of his crimes. Will this be in the Quarter sessions records please?

Mr Newton also did a bit of horse dealing, we purchase a pony for our daughter from him. He also used to take his donkeys to local gala's and fete's for donkey races.

Hi Kathy,

Not actually a zoo, a smallholding with some animals, this belonged to "Ginger" Newton, He wintered seaside donkeys, he had horses and a carriage and some other small animals.
It didn't last very long, I remember our girls going around 1975 for a horse and carriage ride.

Lincolnshire / Re: George Proudley

Hello Shirleyarule,

Hannah and George are both family names in my husband's Proudley tree, I havent located George  bapt 1802, I do have a George bapt 1800 to parents Robert and Eleanor at Corringham Lincs. If you could  inform me of the location  in Lincs you are interested in, I may be able to help. 1802 is a time near when the Proudley surname was under change from Proudlove, they ran side by side for a number of years

I think I am right in saying, there is a book called Crockfords it lists vicars and their various appointments. I know our local Library used to have one. I am not too sure of the dates as a while ago.  This might be something to go on!
