I am pure Welsh !!  On many lines back to the 1600's.

It would be so much easier if I had some English names or places.

Hi Mouchoir

I regret to inform you that I have that awful spelling !!! ;D

I was told by my parents that it is the Welsh spelling.

Good luck with your searches

Janet

Even though you have emailed some of the Lodges, the officers may not go in every week.  Most lodges meet once a month, but if I remember rightly, they might not meet in the July / August period.
It will depend on how often they retrieve their messages !!

Good luck

I have searched the Death index and found

July - Sept.1932
James Smellie .  40
Holyhead
REF.11b 559

You may already have this, if not you can order it online at
www.gro.gov.uk at a cost of £9.25

I forgot to add that this was the only death from 1930 -1934 for a James Smellie + Port

Hi Smary,

Welcome to Rootschat !!!

Have you been able to get his Death Certificate ?  It would not give you much information, other than where he perished.  I managed to find my g, grandfather's certificate which told me that the boat went down between Grimsby and Caernarfon.

It might be helpful to see if your local Record office has the Tithe maps for the area.

I have found many in Wales.  You can then see if the house was rented or owned and by whom.

Hi Tyne traveller

I have googled www. tynecastlelodge.org.uk. which gives you some history of the lodge and other lodges.   It also gives you the number of the lodge, and the others.

I have also done some research on other lodges, and I have not been charged and treated with courtesy.  It is worth trying the above !
