London and Middlesex / Lunatic Asylum - Suggestions?
« on: Sunday 24 August 14 22:46 BST (UK) »Hi all,
If a working class person living in Homerton in the 1920s/1930s and had a nervous breakdown, which asylum might they be sent to? The most local one, out to Colney Hatch, or further beyond still?
Many thanks,
~ Jacobea

His death caused my great-great aunt (born 1892) to have a serious breakdown, so the subject was little spoken of. She lived in Homerton and was a court dressmaker, and it was assumed that her Pomeroy was a fellow Londoner because it was always said that he "died at home". We don't even know if he was serving or not.

That finally solves a mystery. Thank you
