Hi Celia

It looks like you have been doing some great work helping people out. I am an ex Wallasey guy living in Yorkshire and have discovered relatives buried in Rake Lane including my long lost "Irish" grandfather who turned out to be from Liscard!

You are probably already aware but if not I was told that at Earlston Road library they have a list of transcriptions of all graves that have headstones at Rake Lane.

Cheshire Lookup Requests / Re: Electoral Roll Look up

Hi Dotty

I have checked and can't find anything but he was born in 1855 so in 1911 he would have been 56 so approaching 60 by the time war broke out. That is not to say he did not lie about his age and join-up.

He was in the Merchant Navy and in 1911was working on the Mersey ferries so while I have never dismissed this I thought it unlikely but the fruitless search means I have to look at all possibilities.

Unfortunately I have been unable to find any of his Merchant Navy records either.

Thanks Chris

Cheshire Lookup Requests / Electoral Roll Look up
« on: Monday 13 September 10 15:12 BST (UK)  »
Could anyone carry out a look up for me please for the following person:

James Macfarlane address on 1911 census  is 17 Hawthorn Grove Wallasey. His wife Ellen was living there when she died in 1931 showing as his widow.

He dissapears after the 1911 census and he is supposed to have died between the census of 1911 and sometime before March 16th 1916 as his Sons marriage certificate has him as deceased on this date.

Despite numerous searches for his death I can find no trace so I wondered if we could narrow down his possible date of death through an electoral roll search or by any other method.

Thanking you in anticipation

Hi lalaus

Possible good news; the chesire records office in Chester has records of patients at what you refer to as Upton that has been known by many different names now known as the Countess of Chester.  My own grandmother was committed there in 1917 and I found she died in there in 1980.

Cheshire records office has records to 1959 but unfortuantely when the hosptal was taken over they decided to destroy records from then onwards.

My Grandmother was buried in Blacon cemetery which is directly opposite the hospital and was used by the hospital when patients died in their care. The staff at the cemetery are extremely helpful.

The information is to detailed to discuss here so i have sent you a pm so that if you want any further help you can contact me.

Hi Celia

Could you possibly do me a cpl of Rake Lane look ups please. I did try to find these when I visited Earlston Road but I drew a blank possibly as there are no headstones so I believe:

Catherine ellen macfarlane died 1st 1/4 1972 WAL/10a/2166

I am told she is buried on the side closest to the seaview road entarnce opposite what is now an ASDA. I believe she is CofE.

Also Owen Macfarlane died 1945 Wal/8a/566

He is the husband of the above so may well be in the same plot as the above but a relative I have spoken to says he isn't but does not know where he is buried but I suspect it will be Rake Lane.

Any information on any Macfarlanes buried in the cemetery would be welcome.

Many thnks

I'm sure he doesn't even know what a Navvie is!!).

To be fair, you could say that for a lot of people.

I think most people with an an ounce of knowledge who aren't just completely self centered as he came over would know that "navvie" is an abbreviated term for "Navigator" who were mainly from Ireland and travelled wherever to seek work. But then that is a world so far removed from the life of the half baked actor that eh probably would not know what it means

Personal opinion only

From an avid viewer of the series I thought he was a complete and utter idiot with his repeated references to the lower classes, navvies, I'm sure he doesn't even know what a Navvie is!!).

Some of the remarks he made about people  were awful and he came across as totally lacking in empathy and dispalyed no social skills whatsoever.

Needless to say it was not my favourite episode

Anglesey / Pritchard,Evans descendents
« on: Tuesday 27 July 10 16:33 BST (UK)  »
I am researching my family history and would be interested in communicating with descendent of Ellen Evans my GGgm who married James Macfarlane my gggf. The Evans family lived in Llandisyllio (excuse spelling).

Also interestedin the Pritchard family decendents of Wiiliam & Jane Pritchard LlanfairPG and their son Hugh Edward Pritchard. Wiiliam Pritchard was a Tailor.

I actually lived on Anglesey for four years and lived in the flat above Barclays bank in Valley Village and was a regular visitor to the Valley Hotel. At the time I had no idea my ancestors were from the Island.

My grandmother was Ellen Jane "jennie" Macfarlane who married John Gaspar Dann in Walllasey and their eldest daughter was my mother Ellen Dann (Neil)
