A dear departed friend of mine always said " Never put anything smaller than your elbow into your ear" . Good advice?

It's taken me a long time to catch on this week. My pet hassle with child-proofing is the car door locks, I get out from passenger seat, try to open rear door - OH bumbles with all the 100s of controls, and finally it opens. My window won't descend, either - it's "Me-proofed" not child proofed!

The Common Room / Re: Re-thinking our early roots! HUMANS BBC2 series

I'd hoped for great things from this, having read about it .... but there seemed to be the usual superabundance of long shots of presenter  strolling meaningfully, tossing hair, and a lot of it was very thinly spread - a shorter programme, and a voice-over, would have done more for the (very few, and mostly replica?) specimens, perhaps?

Viktoria, funnily enough many decades back, when I was a student, spent some time working on a Roman dig in Manchester, quite interesting to do.

Family History Beginners Board / Re: How do I confirm which person is mine?

I always try to cross-refer suspects in as many ways as possible, trying to find information that can help to confirm or to rule out a person.
Otherwise it's possible to find yourself quite a long way along a branch on the wrong tree!
Even with a comparatively unusual name, in quite a localised area. Keep accumulating facts, and compare. Good luck.

Survived this heatwave quite well - curtains drawn in day on whichever side of the house the sun is on. Busy day yesterday - got up a ladder and bashed some lead flashing that I'd noticed was moving, used the softening heat to help me! Not bad at my age! Almost Viktoria standard. Also emptied with trowel a heavy concrete planter, completely. All the lavender I'd put in that one died, it's twin flourished - so I wasted to know why! (Poor drainage, I suspect, one of the small pieces of stone beneath it to space it up from an uneven floor may have blocked drainage holes)
Even managed to do some weed-hacking in the blissful shade between the back of our big, solidly built shed, and overgrowth from neighbouring garden's hidden area they don't venture near!
Good day, eh? And I HATE heat, and somehow got all that done before splatting out on swing seat, under canopy, with cool ( non-alcoholic) drink!
No idea why I had such an outburst of activity. Amazed I did!

Viktoria, many cats are indoor, with a wired mesh cat run for outdoors. One could be built acessible from your utility room. The cat we catsit sometimes has its own "doorkey" to its own catflap in its implanted chip. Can get in and out whenever she wants. That's one solution.

I oince made an "Andy Pandy" costume for my OH, complete with hat, for a fundraising Fancy Dress Day - all doing our normal jobs, but in silly outfits. 10.00 the night before I realised I'd not done one for myself, so I set about cannibalising a blue and white striped evening dress, and used that and the fabric left over from A-P to dress myself as Mrs Andy Pandy, nee Looby Loo!
Those two costumes went the rounds of loads of people over the next 15 years! Wonder where they are now?

Thanks for the identification, KGarrod. I spent ages staring at the rather feeble looking sprays, trying to work it out!
As usual, Viktoria, you come up with interesting and unexpected information. Thank you, also.
