It's not that unusual for two children to be named the same especially if the parents chose the traditional naming pattern for naming their children. My husband's great great grandparents named two of their children Alexander. There is seven years between the two births and on the census returns they are shown as 1st Alexander Mackenzie and 2nd Alexander Mackenzie. I have also come across a similar situation elsewhere in my family tree but at the moment I can't remember where it is. There are two Margarets in one family. Both started out being called Margaret but the other ended up being referred to in the censuses as Maggie.
