Ah OK, I looked for baptisms for those listed in Liff but found none, does not help that the 1841 census omits to tell us the relationships within the household.

I'm seeing a 60 year old James McKenzie who is showing as a gardener on the 1841 census is this who you think is your relative? It's just there's a 60 year old 'Ag Lab Army Pensioner' living Kirriemuir also called James McKenzie how did you rule him out?

Do you have any idea who the two young children are who were living with James Christie and Ann Paxton in 1841? The fact that one has the surname STEVEN has me a bit twitchy given the mother's maiden name on Elizabeth Christie's DC? EDIT: maybe just boarders after all...I think the wee Steven's boy is back with his mother Isabella Bruce in 1851...

Elizabeth and Thomas were the siblings of the infamous tailor James Christie much talked of on this site...

Ah, OK she is the Agnes who married a David Burnett not the one who married a John Grant. Sorry, a bit confused with the multiple Agnes Baillie's around.

Is your John the one who married Rebecca? If so an Agnes Baillie married a David Burnett in 1814...in 1841 a young David Burnett is living with Agnes and her children have you followed through on him?The John Adie married to Rebecca is a 'callendar worker' in 1881 showing aged 58...when does he become a newsagent?

Have you looked at the original 1841 census? Your people are living at Mill of Rathen which is next to Quarryhead (multiple spellings over the years) on the schedule...Folio 1 page 3...the only mill close by is Mill Of Forrest which is Folio 1 page 1...you need to 'walk' the routes to place your mill in the landscape :)

Hi Liviani,
Are John Stott's (born 1790) parent's listed on his death certificate? Thought he might be a brother to William but on the 41 if that's him living at Boddin he's showing born outside of the county?

Thanks for the links. If you PM me with your email I'll send you the pages I have for Guthrie. I have the marriage banns for both couple - one above the other on the same page :)
