Good luck!
I note that in 1901 Isabella was still living in Bulwark & was a pauper. It would be a good idea to try & find out if she was in receipt of poor relief. Have you found her in the 1911 census? What does her death certificate say? If she was poor then there may not be a headstone but no harm in looking :)
flst

Hi no sign of her in the churchyard, quite a few headstones unreadable though, nothing of note on her death certificate, domestic servant ( retired) husbands first name listed as William it was James, likely error on her grandsons part as he was witness on certificate

Not looked at census yet, will do so

Where do I look to see if she got poor relief?

I am James and Isabella's  great great grandson and have a lot of information about the family. Have sent you a PM

If you are going to edit a post then would it not be a good idea to go trhough the compleat thread and remove all mention to living persons and not just the last post , or your exercise is pointless.

I am quite happy to use the private message facility but the people who may have the information I require may not be members of Rootchat.

Thank you for that Information and the links.

I am not sure if the family had any links with the IRA certainly Gerry never talked about it and when asked he would point blank refure says therewas a lot more to it than people knew, remembering this was back in the 60s early 70s. I think he would have been to young at eleven to be invovled as would his siblings.
There was a Christy Mullen and I did a bit of research but it was not Gerry's older brother.

thanks again for the information

Suey& Binge,

I agree with you on living people but my enquiry is regarding events that happened during WWII and both parties are now deceased. Please try to avoid mention of any living person - Global Moderator

My question is regarding Beryll Pockett's engagement to my second cousin P/O CR Young mid 1940. I do have this ina notice in his school magazine but I am trying to find if any of her family can confirm this and possible give me a date.

I am in regular touch with Beryll's daughter Penny, in France but she has no knowledge of her mothor's engagement. She has supplied me with a lot of information on her mother's WAAF career.

I do have a good reason for trying to find this conformation of beryll's engagement and the date but cannot post it on this website.
I am happy for you to contact me directly at e-mail address removed as per Rootschat policy - Please use the private message facility - Global Moderator.
If Mr& Mrs P does have access to the internet they can see all my research todate at www.fighterboy.org.uk. I am not doing this for any financial gain but to record the events of an unsung hero of the Battle of Britain.

regards
Drew

That is great news. I am ever hopeful of getting confirmation of Beryll and P/O Youngs engagement from a family member.

Penny thinks her mother may have got rid of a lot of information when she moved but she does have, and has sent me some cuttings from newspapers about Beryll's time in the WAAF. It does mention her being engaged but not to whom!

I am hoping to persuade Penny to allow me to collect her father and mother's story but I think she feels I may be doing it for financial gain which is certainly not the case.

You replied to my post back in March 2009. See threads.

If your Alan Pockett is a relation to Beryll I would be interested if the family had any knowledge of her engagement to P/O Young.
Her only daughter Penny, has now knowledge except for the dog Henry.

It would complete my research and put the final touches to his memorial website

kindess regards

I have included this link to www.fighterboy.org.uk where you can see the almost completed story.

Hi CPH

Yes I research genealogy and its strange that Gerry is one of my brick walls and him being my father in Law it does not make sense.

I spend 2 years in Dublin back in 1995,Spent a lot of time watching them film Michael Collins (stilla great movie) but at that time I did not think that I would have problems with Gerry, so only reserched earlier lines.
Unfortunately when Joe passed away so did all his knowledge, although  when visited he was having problems remembering and got a lot of things mixed up.

The results of one of my other lines of research can be seen at www.fighterboy.org.uk
