Herefordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Goodwin, Shobdon & Rosser, Penallt : marriage

Yes, sounds like it. My grandfather was Arthur Goodwin Rosser, one of the four brothers. Did Edgar marry Dorothy? I think I have a picture of the wedding. My email is <garry.rosser@yahoo.com>.

Monmouthshire / Re: Ann Leech

Hi TYDU,
I've been looking into Ann Rosser (Leech) and there are hints that she was indeed the older sister of Henry Chadwell Rosser. HCR married a Mary Ann Baynham in 1832 and together they had 10 children, however HCR met an Elizabeth Goodwin from Shobdon and had a child by her : Edwin H Rosser, born in Weobley, Herefordshire in 1850. The 1851 English Census shows Ann Leech as Head of family with her daughters living in Leigh. At this time HCR is living with his wife and family in Ledbury. Staying with Ann Leech in 1851 was 11 month old Henry Goodwin, born in Weobley, Herefordshire and also a pauper lodger Elizabeth "Chadd" aged 20. A coincidence? HCR must have left Mary Ann Rosser after 1851 as he and Elizabeth went on to have 8 children.

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / ROSSER Careg y Rhew & Coroners Inquests
« on: Saturday 28 November 09 23:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I have identified a relative Henry ROSSER who died in 1873 (aged 64) at Careg y Rhew, Margam. Died from natural causes but information on the death was reported to the registrar by Howell Cuthbertson Coroner for Glamorganshire Inquest held 5th Sept 1873.

Two queries :
Does anyone know anything about Careg y Rhew, Margam? was it an old village in the area or some sort of industrial area? I've tried some general internet searches but nothing comes up.
Secondly, does anyone know if the records from Inquests are kept from that era, and if so where?
Many Thanks :)

Yes, died in 1873 as a fitter, but no family informant (Glamorganshire coroners inquest). Do you know if records of such coroners inquests are kept from that period?

RE ' the same Henry'  Agree looks possible, even probable, but I will try to rule out any other Henry Rossers born in Monmouth around that time.  :)

Thanks Susan :) .

CaroleW - getting more and more complex! If this is the same Henry he's a very busy boy!  Re 1841 Roper : speculation here: Thomas would be a traditional family name ,his brother Thomas seems to have died in Jamaica in 1832 and his great grandfather and his father before him were Thomas, but then its a common name anyway, Albert and Ann look like twins , unclear why they would have been separated at 1841, although baynham family may be  connected between locations.  Thomas and Albert may have died before 1851 . there are other name resonances in the children. .....there's a lot to assess here! Thanks again.

Thanks.....thats a lot to digest. I'm really grateful to you and impressed.

I've checked a transcript of the 1832 Hope Mansell marriage entry but unfortunately no detail on grooms father which still leaves some room for doubt . However he is shown as living at St Briavels which is quite close ( across the Wye) to his birthplace.

Now can't find them in 1841 census Ledbury, but will keep looking.

Does raise a query though, .......in 1861 Henry is living in Berkeley with Elizabeth (nearly 20 years his junior) and they have a son Edwin aged 11 (born about 1850)  ...maybe thats the reason for the family split!  Thanks very much, I will look into these developments  :)

Hi,
Yes,  from her second son Edgar born in Brimscombe 1860.

Also the Goodwin name was carried on as a middle name with her third son Henry ( informant on her death certificate ) and again with one of Edgar's sons.
