Oh dear!!! Where has all this latest information come from? I have a copy of the Birth Transcription from the NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages (requested by Jocelyn Bakewell on 17 February 2003) which shows that Elizabeth Knee aged 17 gave birth on 27 April 1859 to an illegitimate daughter, Amelia. The fathers's name is "not listed". I also have a copy of the record of the baptism of Emily Amelia, daughter of Elizabeth Knee, born on 27 April and baptised on 26 June 1859. I also have a copy of a Birth Transcription which shows that Amelia Emily Gorrick Knee gave birth to an illegitimate daughter, Violet Emily Maude Tierney, on 3 January 1879 at Rutherford, West Maitland. Again, the father is "not listed". Other documents show that Elizabeth Darlinghurst Knee subsequently married William Buckingham Trindall in 1862 and that Amelia Emily married Thomas Norton Jowitt in 1884. The mystery is: who were the fathers of these two illegitimate girls? It is very doubtful that Amelia's father could have been an Albert Gorrick or Joseph Albert Gorrick.
Furthermore there is a record of Elizabeth's baptism which was performed on 22 January 1843 and which shows her birth as being 30 December 1842, parents Daniel Knee and Mary Ann Knee although Daniel and Many Ann (Mantle)were not married until 27 February 1843.

Hi Freckle,
Have PM'd you a private message. Yes oh yes I need help on two counts : Amelia's father and Violet's father - both were illegitimate. Violet has "Teirney" as a christian name on her birth certificate - if this suggests the father's name where can I find out more about him? There's a suggestion above that his name was Patrick Tierney but with no other info (eg birth/death dates) it's difficult to establish exactly which of the many Patrick Tierneys I have come across it was.

Re Partick Tierney being Violet's father, have searched but cannot find any info that is vaguely relevant because he did not marry Amelia. There are several Patrick Tierneys but I have no way of knowing which is correct as I have no details re birth & death. Despite the Jason Jowitt pdf file I cannot find any definite info regarding the existence of Albert Joseph Gorrick, although there definitely was a Joseph Albert Gorrick, a solicitor, who married Celia Catherine Hillcoat. Amelia Emily Gorrick Knee was my great grandmother who married (1) Thomas Norton Jowitt and (2) James Anderson Wormald. I am a descendant of that Jowitt line, so I do have a connection with Violet and would dearly love to know which Patrick Tierney is her father. Can anybody help please with some dates?

Hi to Katness and Alica.
It's taken me a while to check this forum again but am glad I have as the info re Patrick and Kathleen Teirney will now give me some new leads as I had almost given up on trying to establish Amelia Gorrick Knee's paternity. Thank you all for your help on this search and would love any info re the Mellon Teirney connection anybody has.
Kathy

Many thanks to you both for your help. I tried the link you gave me , Jorose, but couldn't get any more re the deaths except for Cecil. No matter. The info both you and Sparret have given fills in enough gaps to make me happy with that genealogical line.

Many thanks for your help Trish. Tried the link but it told me "no matches" However your info has filled in many gaps. Interestingly I have a copy of a birth certificate showing that Violet's surname was recorded as Tierney, though Amelia Emily GORRICK KNEE (yes, she was also illegitimate) is shown as the mother.Don't know where the "TIERNEY" surname comes in, but it is also on the record of her marriage to Edward MELLON, with Amelia once again shown as the mother. Still can't discover who Violet's father was.

Thanks for your help everyone. No, I don't know who the father was though there are several hypotheses including an uncle who was said to have come out from England yet is also said to have died when he was 2 years old. Just for the record, Elizabeth Darlinghurst Knee did marry William Buckingham TRINDALL after Amelia Emily GORRICK KNEE  was born and they did have a large family. Amelia GORRICK KNEE married Thomas Norton JOWITT IN 1884 and subsequently moved to Queensland. After his death in 1900 she married James Anderson WORMALD in 1901.
Still hoping someone can help me track down Amelia's father.

Elizabeth Darlinghurst TRINDALL nee KNEE (b:30.12.1842 ~ 1902) was the mother of Amelia Emily GORRICK KNEE (b:27.4.1859 ~ 1934) but who was the father?
