There is an Ellis Dudley of Skibereen who attended a meeting in the West riding of County Cork.  the ratepayers were agitating  for the county to be divided into separate East and West Cork.  This was reported on 8 March 1843 in the Cork Examiner.  I mention it because you believed that your Ellis Dudley had migrated by then.

Carol, I'm interested in the family of Francis Thornhill (born c1837) watchmaker of Shelton, Staffs.  His father John was born in County Cork c1798.  My Elizabeth Thornhill (C1800 to 1846) lived and died in County Cork, but I can't find her birth.  It is POSSIBLE that John is her brother.  I know that you were interested in Francis at one time.  Have you learnt more?  I can follow Francis' siblings (Henry and Hannah) through several censuses but after 1881 Francis and most of his family disappear.  Did they return to New Zealand, do you know?

Australia / Re: Thornhill's in Victoria ?

I have three Thornhill daughters arriving in Victoria  between 1857 and 1859.  Their names are Frances (Fanny), Elizabeth and Margaret.  They were the daughters of Elizabeth Thornhill and William Dudley.

All were baptised in Mitchelstown County Cork Ireland in the 1830s.  Elizabeth snr is my "Brick wall".  I can find no marriage for her and therefore no parents, birthdate or place.

She died in Mitchelstown in 1845, leaving seven young children.  The names of the others are William, George, Christopher and Susan.  A family story states that she was a Quaker.
