Armagh / Ivy House and William OBrien and Maybe Henry
« on: Thursday 25 April 24 17:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi All, it has been a while..and I hope more online or I need to get someone to help/point me in direction.

First - OK my Grandad was William OBrien - he was head constable between 1928-1934. Badge 1171.  My dad and my uncles and aunt grew up in that station. From my research, we was at many petty sessions etc in papers. I have some pictures, informal and that is it and an xmas party of him, I assume it is lurgan

I have all floor plans of the station from Archives in Dublin,  and many a story, even a map my dad sketched out for me with orchard out the back. I have the infamous Ivy lodge, and within 2 weeks I will have a more recent one, PSNI are helping me - it has cars in it:) When dad there there was no Ivy on front...I will share here what I have. PSNi have loads, of members hundreds but sure nobody stuck station names on back nevermind who was in the pictures..

What I need is to get someone who can get a picture of my gandad, there has to be some.  There was not even that many based in station, His number was 1171.

Secondly:  And this is a chance, but I am so stuck. My grandad had a brother named Henry OBrien RIC, he was aged 22. On May 29th 1922 he was shot in Belfast and died the next day - the thing that I am stumped on is my dad and Aunts side they remember he was buried in Lurga - I had assumed Lurga(n) but exhausted that any graveyard in anything even like  a township in Roscommon, where the brothers lived.. and I actually think now it could well be NI Lurgan, that was not a time to be running around...prior to HC my grandad was only up the road and my grandad buried him and signed up in Tyrone on 1st June. I have tried everything - posts on our forums will show henry obrien 69991.

So in  nutshell, I dearly love a pic of my grandad and as important, if Henry reg 69991   is there is no a headstone I do. I have no problem paying for help, but have no idea where to turn.

Help:) Please...

Many Thanks
Paul

Totally correct all.....I have all details and was unsure here was corrrect forum....most I have up on ancestry....others red cross letters etc and commissioned resaerch have....1st after 10 yeasrs I did so much digging was totally wrong.....I wantwed to chekc really if right forum....25 years on and off have a lot of data so I am after specifics and last bits of a big jigsaw.....it has been 3 years since I looked through hundreds of files and certs....but I have all I can get...so am saying I have tried my best and stuck and need to close out .....and only greenock can help me.....on mums side....my GG Grand fater or GGG was Henry Gallagher......born in SLigo and in 1850s went to Moville, Donegal, as that where boat left to for scotland....he endded up in ship works. I will consisely detail all of their folders ....unsure how I share anncetry but dats and all there and pics  too... so if Id so is this where I post the detail....I really did a hell of a lot of research andso looking for gaps to help is all...I fly over and sit in a library for days to close this....my piunt being I have exhauted literallly every thing and so much detail and would not post going here my grandad richard greenock west any help, I am qualified geneologist and boxes of info from scots people, forums and mods and you name it....so after a few years I figure a lot more on line. If ok I post here and figure out how to share my ancestry tree and share sancs collected... atm I concentrationg on My grandad richard ....I literally sent dowen a rabbit hold with 86 odd marriages and and rl takes over , let me give consice on richard and his siblings as a start porobably best....I am fairly sure around 10 galklaghers burried in closest catholic graveyard near st marys.....where they lived around the corner I recall was all demolished at one stage....again I have the info....I just refresh and give ...my ancestry account is live and has all details, unused in a year or two.... it has has...all basic and pile of pics...so Scotland side I am Gallagher/mclean/murphy/mac Tagart - I think....record there might have beeen updated as a few mac tagarts....wright/mc donald.  My Grandad Richard born 1899-1969 st marys greenock, his dad Charkes gallagher 1856-1929 (he married Mary anne murphy - greenock 1869-1943 (he married two same first name), his father was Henry Gallagher from sligo to moville1811-1877 - that was a pain as because of accent and he could not write....census had him as gallocher not gallager, married janet mctaggart 1822/24- 1885, Janets had three siblings JDuncan/Agnus and Christain.....her father was - Ias best I know.....Duncan McTagart 1796 who married Flora McCleanb 1781.....Duncans dad was I think.....Lachlan McTagart 1758 who married Flora McLean b1781, Lachlans dad was Angus mcTagart who married Katherine Mc DOugald.most lived in earlier generations in and arond belive (??) street  3 argile street,Market street mctagarts parish cambelton ARgll (but I am unsure0....so my point is I doing a lot and have what is easist way to trace for me to detail ....just my grandad first all and and x a sig, Henrys father )

My Henry OBrien I have death cert issued in July 1922...he was shot outside Cullingtree Road barracks by 6-7 men in May ...he was having a cigarette with a civilian. He had been transferred from Kerry a few weeks prior...and ironically would have been alive otherwise as ceasefire was in place in the republic. Newspaper reports said in some the RVH in Belfast and other the Mater...he died of wounds in the Mater I can confirm..Those were bad days, he was only 22 in 1922 just making a living..
